We don't live close to a Bubba Gumps, so we like to grab the hushpuppies when we are visiting. We were on a tour from San Francisco, so we had a quick bite at the bar. The hush puppies tasted like the meal was not mixed properly and possibly the seafood that was mixed in their famous hush puppies was not fresh. I was very disappointed this time around and a little worried that I would be ill after consuming them. This experience was not the same as the one in Kemah, Chicago, Long Beach, Orlando, etc.
Wanted to eat at the very 1st Bubba Gump's so the 5 of us made our way there early on a Friday evening. We got allocated a table straight away, with a nice view overlooking Monterey Bay. Drinks were ordered, & after a short wait the 3 soft drinks arrived, the other 2 (beers) took another 10 mins or so. The food was duly ordered, & this is where it really started to go downhill... The 1st meal was served, with no sight of the others... by the time meals 2, 3, & 4 arrived, diner 1 had already finished. When meal 5 turned up, it was the wrong one, so yet more delays whilst that was sorted out. Eventually, the correct meal 5 was served, although by this time everyone else on our table had finished/was finishing their food. The food itself was tasty enough, although the issues in getting served really took the shine off of what could otherwise have been a nice meal. When the check arrived, the incorrect meal had also been added, so I had to yet again wait around whilst that was removed, even though the restaurant didn't seem that busy. Overall, it was unfortunately a disappointing experience.
2 hour and 45 minute wait at 3pm. Wait list was turned off before then too. No one answered call. Staff at desk seemed irritated we asked. Even though we had gift cards, we said forget it and did not even try any other day on our trip.
The food here is really good and the drinks are amazing! The staff are friendly and very attentive.
We booked here on Saturday morning to get a table for the evening. Good Choice as were told the wait was 3 hours when we went to register. We were seated 20 minutes after our reservation. The main positive is the position overlooking the bay. We had an outside table bayside. The heaters were on as it was a cool evening The food is ok, no frills, no tastes to take your breath away but perfectly OK.
March 21st 2022 at around 4.30pm checked in at Bubba Gump in Monterey. We were told a 30 minute wait and that they would text my husband when ready for us. After waiting about 50 minutes I went to ask if we had missed the text. The lady said no but it will be soon. About 10 minutes later the lady came to us (we were waiting outside) and said that they had texted us 10 minutes before and that we were about to lose our spot. My husband was upset and showed them his phone - there was no text or phone call or message whatsoever. The manager came out and was very unpleasant with us. We did not get a text. After that the service was ok and the food ok although not the calamari (don't order it.) At 8.20pm that day my husband got the text from them (they close at 8pm.) Of course it could have been a phone company issue but the hostess and manager did not have to be so unpleasant about it. Honestly the food is mediocre and quite expensive. We are not going to this restaurant again. There are plenty of better places in Monterey.

The first Bubba Gumps we ever visited has become our Monterey tradition. We have eaten here at least a dozen times over the years and it has always been a great experience. Great food, great service, incredible views of the bay.
Beautiful view of the ocean while dining. The food is affordable and tastes great. Pleasant staff at every interaction.
Loving the newer menu haven’t been to this location in about 2 years and has gotten even better!
