After grabbing some fruit from the farmers market right in front, we saw the high reviews for this place and gave it a try. The beer was good but we heartily regretted the food. If you love drowning food in sauce, you may like it. We ordered their most popular items, thinking the turnover would be good.Overall the food was too heavy, dripping with sugary, oily sauces so you couldn't really see or taste the meat. The fried food was so oily and greasy, coating slid right off. We had to double check there wasn't a mistake made with the everything seasoning pretzel bc they looked like plain mini baguettes, kind of like the complimentary Olive Garden rolls (haven't been to one in 20 years so not sure if they r still) but with a baking soda wash.Service was also nonexistent. Given it was empty except for one other table in the front, and we also had several bags of peaches and apricots (which we let them know), we wondered why we were given a tiny table for two all the way in the back where servers were chatting and folding napkins. The size of the table was big enough if you were only going to have beer and a small starter. Right next to us were several large four person tables and booths, any of which would have been comfortable given we were ordering late lunch/early dinner. As we were almost done, we realized they allow non-service dogs inside indoor dining area, (as someone who loves animals and has taken care of several different pets throughout my life) which we think is unsanitary.
A solid brewpub with excellent beer. Great vibe and family-friendly. The Mai Tai IPA is AMAZING, and the service was excellent with very friendly wait staff. I had the lamb burger and it was excellent, it was like a gyro but on a bun. The pizzas however, left a lot to be desired as they were lukewarm and similar in quality to a chain pizzeria. We came on a Saturday evening, so expected a long wait but it only took about 20 min to be seated. If you’re in the area and crave something other than seafood with some amazing brews, definitely check this place out.
Alvarado brewery was delicious! We are here for dinner on Fourth of July and it was spectacular. We got the poblano mac and cheese & fried chicken sandwich. The fried chicken sandwich was a winner, the sauce and the cole slaw were a delicious combo.I got got some Santa Lucia highland wine since we are so close (I love that they offer local wine) & my boyfriend got a guava cocktail which he loved. We would definitely recommend this restaurant!
Great atmosphere and nice beer. Food was fine. Burgers etc. Excellent fried sprouts!! Decent night out but it gets crowded quite early so be prepared to wait. People in California do tend to eat out early (busy from 5pm)
Loco moco: loved it. Nicely crusted meat and tasty bacon fried rice (5/5) Birria tacos: good consumme. Juicy meat. Crunchy shell (4/5) Spanish mussels: gf loved it. Included chorizo, onions and Fresno chilis in the broth (5/5) Those dishes plus child menu cheesburger and a flight of 6 beers came out to around $110 including tip.
Options and Great Taste - parking is fairly easy in non-metered Monterey. Options to sit are on the street side, at the bar, tables inside, out back. Bar seating was right but comfortable, bartender was prompt but impatient when helping with brewery suggestions. He definitely treats older people differently than younger. Beers are good, there’s one for everyone, no reds. Food options seem limited but healthy to meet any taste. We had the Loco Moco, a real lean option.
Very solid brewery with good food! We stopped by after our Spartan race and got seated immediately.Good:Lots of food options as well as drink options. I liked the pork belly pizza since it was super unique. The tomato soup was delicious as well. The Mai tai PA was pretty tasty but I’m not a beer fan. I loved the Burrata as well here. Overall portion sizes feel on the larger side.Bad:Not as big of a fan of the poutine or the French mussels - just not that much flavor.Overall enjoyed our time here! Very nice place to catchup with friends and friendly servers too.
Hamburgers were all well done instead of the rare that I prefer. Huge burger and the garlic fries were great. This place gets very busy during lunch.
Alvarado Street Brewing was packed on Saturday night. We came in for dinner and luckily found two seats at the bar (self seating) instead of having to wait for a table. To our good fortune and thanks to recommendations from the regular sitting next to us, we tried the two special beers that were just released. The blueberry sour and key lime sour beers were delicious. We even got cans to take home and share with friends later. For dinner, we had the mini birria tacos and a black and blue burger. The taco with sauce was delicious and the burger was also good.
We came here after another local restaurant had a wait time that was a bit too long for hungry kids. Really glad we did as the food was excellent.
