I got the ube horchata which was very good. Also go three obanyaki; custard, nutella, and coconut matcha. Custard was my favorite.
The Obanyaki was superb. I had the number one with a scoop of Ube ice cream. Their Red Bean Milk Frost drink has red beans at the bottom which was very tasty to chew on. Also the White Rabbit Milk Tea is super smooth. Would recommend.
Mr. Obanyaki is an easy location to find that's in between 2 strip mall parking lots. There's plenty of parking on either side of the establishment. I called ahead to place an order, since that was suggested from other reviews. It's about a 15 minute wait time because the obanyaki are made fresh to order. That's much appreciated!I'm a first time customer, so I wasn't familiar with their menu and unsure if the ones shown on Yelp were updated. When I phoned in, Kevin was kind enough to read out the entire drink menu and explain the different flavors they had for the obanyaki, ice cream and drinks... I even asked him to repeat it again, since I was indecisive and he did so gladly. That was already a glimpse into the superb customer service their staff provides!Arriving at the location, my first impression was how clean the shop was. The space was open, well lit and had a decent amount of indoor seating. The staff (Kevin, Terry & Lang) were very welcoming and kind. While the obanyaki were finishing up, it was clever that they kept my scooped ice cream in the freezer, so it won't melt while waiting. They quickly completed our order and marked each item with names accordingly. That definitely helped with identifying which obanyaki I was biting into, before chomping down.Btw, if you don't know what an obanyaki is...It's a mini stuffed pancake. The batter is poured into a special cast-iron round grilled pan and grilled until crispy on the outside, and filled with sweet red bean paste or other creative flavors.I ordered the Value Combo D:- 1 Obanyaki Ice Cream (obanyaki + ice cream)- 1 Obanyaki Combo (3 obanyaki)- 1 DrinkPlus an additional drink because there's a buy one drink get the 2nd half off (BOGO 50% off). Deals are winners! We picked the following flavors:Obanyaki:- Red Bean- Black Sesame- Matcha Coconut- TaroIce Cream: They have Fosselman's Ice Cream- UbeIce Cream Topping:- Oreo CrumbleDrinks:- Hokkaido Milk Tea- White Rabbit Milk TeaEverything was hot, delicious and looked beautiful!I love the simple yet sleek logo, which goes well on printed T-shirts, wall decor, large signage and most importantly, on the food merchandise! It definitely made the obanyaki 'pop' with the cute logo branded on each one. They were grilled to perfection and the filling inside was very generous. I enjoyed tasting all the fillings, but especially liked the Black Sesame and Red Bean! Again, having freshly prepared obanyaki was a treat! Each bite is like happiness and a walk down memory lane.I only tried their sweet fillings, but perhaps I'll try their savory ones next time. Current savory fillings are Mac & Cheese and Curry Corn. The drinks were sweet and delicious. I would recommend the White Rabbit. Will have to come back to try their Black Sesame Milk Tea, Ube Horchata and Match Horchata.I would absolutely recommend trying out Mr. Obanyaki! They've been in business for the past 3 years, going on 4 years, which is a great accomplishment given the current situation. If you're in the Monterey Park area, definitely stop by and treat yourself! I've made my way from the Bay Area to LA / Monterey Park and would come back again for a satisfying dessert run!SUPPORT LOCAL!P.S. Their shovel spoons for ice cream are TOO CUTE! It's definitely all in the details :).
Good atmosphere, very good desserts and drinks. Love their drinks, red bean drink, & divine hot baked red bean dessert..
They were so yummy!Loved the custard and matcha one! Didnt get to try the redbean nut will soon!
The drinks are good but what you want are the Obanyaki cakes. I don't think you can get them anywhere else besides that cart in front of that one supermarket.
This is my first time coming here with my boyfriend and I will definitely be coming back with my cousin next time! I got the red bean obanyaki with the matcha green tea ice cream and it honestly tastes yummy. The matcha green tea ice cream has an earthy taste so if you want something sweeter I recommend getting the une ice cream.
Very cleanNice workersAlmost every table has an outlet nearbyHas a bathroomWhite rabbit didn't taste like white rabbit :(The foam tastes like cheese. The drink tastes like watered down milk with a hint of sweetness.Edit: I ate all the foam and waited for all the ice to melt. The drink tastes good. I understand how it tastes like white rabbit :)(I don't like to use straws so I think the ice diluted the flavor, or something)The other drinks are good, absolutely recommend them :)Depicted are:Mocha latte, matcha horchata, and white rabbits.
It's totally yummy and I was impressed with the thoughtfulness in the packaging. Each flavor is individually marked. It also stays hot for much longer than I'd expected. Great experience!
We drove to Mr Obanyaki from LA, looking for original dessert. We tried several flavors of the Obanyaki cakes, from the red been, matcha coconut, black sesame, nutella, custard, taro, boba milk tea, to the curry corn, mac and cheese. All flavors were amazing, so delicious and unique. Plus great service!
