My sister and I stopped in to grab a burger before a show at the Ace Theater 2 days ago.The show started at 8 and we arrived at 7. Thought that would be plenty of time for burger and then cross the street to see the show.We walked right in and sat at the bar. My sister ordered a drink and we ordered burgers and fries. We then wait. 10 minutes later the bartender says, hey did anyone here order an old fashioned? My sister says, yea I did. The bartenders says ok and then walks away. She made the drink about 5 minutes later. We are still waiting for our burgers. Its, 7:30, 7:45. We keep asking. They will be ready soon we hear. We finally tell them we need them to go so we can make the show. 7:55, look we say, we have to leave and we will get them later. Finally they give us a bag. We take it, get in line (luckily the show started late due to a technical issue). We open our burgers and they were not even what we ordered. We eat them because we are hungry. They are ok burgers, nothing special. The couple in front of us in line told us they too were at Unami to grab a bite before the show and they too had a horrible experience. Slow service and mixed up orders.I won't be back.
I came in about a two weekends ago for a show i was going to at the Orpheum and I'm honestly really disappointed by this place. It's clearly severely understaffed. Our waitress was a sweetheart and did her best. But there's not much you can do when your restaurant is in complete chaos. The manager was barely doing anything to help his team and I found his attitude unwelcoming and rude. The bar and kitchen were really backed up and our food/drinks took forever to come out. And when they did they brought out the wrong food. The guy who brought our food was understanding and brought our correct food as soon as he could, but he seemed new and not properly trained. Bartender was too busy with her section to make all the drinks for the rest of the restaurant at a reasonable time. This restaurant needs too see major improvements in staffing and management before I ever think of coming back.
BF and I were excited to try out Umami as it has been years since either of us have had it. But after the experience we had, it seems like we'll never get a chance to try it and have no plans on trying to come back ever again. We go inside and there's not a single person sitting down inside. We sit at the bar, there's one server on the phone and one other server taking a big order from 7 people. Neither of them ever acknowledged us. The girl on the phone was on the phone the entire 15-20 minutes we were waiting. Not multiple calls taking orders or anything, just on the phone because of a single customer issue (which I can see why they had given the service we had.) Once the other server was done taking the one order from the big group, which I kid you not took over 10 minutes, we thought she was finally going to take our order. Nope. She also gets on the phone and refuses to acknowledge us. No water, no drinks, nothing. We walked out after 20 minutes. What in the world? I have never experienced something so unprofessional. Definitely have no plans of going back and wasting our time there.
They could not competently cook a burger despite two attempts on two burgers and despite serving only burgers. They delivered the wrong food to the table. They didn’t cook anything despite my husband being unable to eat his way overcooked burger; we took them home to our dog to eat. Hi salads or anything more veggie friendly.
I'm not the type to trip out on the quality of food. I love food period food is food. But I couldn't help to seem to notice the meat is a little undercooked. (personally not trippin, just lookin out for the health of others) And the patty is too small. Just a loaf of sauced up bread at the last bites of my burger honestly. /: But AY, y'all know how to cook up some onion rings that's for sure! ?
Loved loved loved the new menu by Alvin Cailian!!! I was so excited to try the new burgers that I totally forgot to take pics of them before I started eating and they are as delicious as I expected!!! I had the Truffle burger and my daughter had the Reggiano both were out of this world good! I am looking so forward to trying each and every burger on the menu, honestly I don't know how I left without taking another one or two of these burgers home with me!? We went to the downtown LA location and what pleasure it was to be able to sit at the bar on a Saturday evening and chat with the staff who are incredibly friendly, such a beautiful location can't wait to return!
Their miso ranch is a game changer!! So delicious!!
excellent pressed burger place . liked the garlic parmesan fries
I ate half of my burger and couldn't finish it because it was SO SALTY. I love salt, but it tasted like i was eating a spoonful of salt. And the truffle fries?? What happened to them?! They are not the same truffle fries I had years ago. I'm so grossed out and disappointed. I used to LOVE Umami Burger.
I made a reservation at Umami through Open Table. Picked the place because it's next door to the Orpheum, where we were going to see a concert. I arrived on time, told a waiter I had a reservation for 6:30, and he said "We don't take reservations." I said, well you do, I booked this on Open Table. And he said, well, yeah, we told Open Table we don't reservations. Now for the food. I've eaten at Umami elsewhere and thought the burgers were good. This time: overcooked (you could say burned) and extremely salty. (And I like salt!) Service was horrendous. Two-thirds of the way through the mean, we still hadn't gotten our drinks. I went up to the bar and the waitress seemed annoyed I was even asking and then proceeded to have a conversation with another customer who had come up behind me before slowly (I mean slowly) retrieving our sodas. The worst experience I can remember in a restaurant dating back years.
