I was excited to try after reading that the owner of the group is a Michelin-starred Japanese chef. The waiter boasted during the start of the meal that they only did Nigiri / Sashimi in traditional Japanese style.Unfortunately, comparing it to any of my experiences eating at Sushi places in Japan (even chain restaurants like Sushi Zanmai), it does not hold a candle. It isn’t even good compared to other chain Sushi places in Asia like Genki Sushi and Itacho Sushi. My wife and I were so disappointed. The Otoro had no fat, it felt like cheap tuna cuts. The seaweed felt and tasted like just the pre-packed seaweed you buy from any Asian grocery. But what was the worst was the quality of the rice. It was not real sushi rice. It was too dry, and the sushi would not hold together well and gave all the dishes a rough, unsavory texture.Besides the lackluster food, I have to point out that the ambiance was so dark, the server could not even see if our plates still had food in them or not. A waitress swooped in like a hawk and took my tuna sashimi dish when it still had pieces of tuna in it. I could not even say anything as she just did it so fast. I’m sure she meant well but it was such a waste considering the price point. Also, the tables are so jampacked beside each other, you feel you have zero privacy. The greeter seated us beside someone who surely had Covid. The lady beside my wife wore a mask during the entire meal, shoving bits of sushi into her mouth underneath her mask, while having a literal pulse oximeter attached to her finger. We felt disconcerted the whole time.Overall, I think this place thrives on people who’ve never been to Japan - who don’t know what real Sushi should be like. It is certainly not authentic / traditional (tuna sashimi swimming in ponzu sauce?), and I would not recommend it to anyone who knows better. I may sound mean by saying this, but to me it is the honest truth. It is a money-making chain store with not much art to it. I mean, even my cold green tea was just powdered Matcha from a pack. My wife’s hot green tea came from a Lipton bag. The one highlight is that the servers are generally nice and polite. They look like a bunch of hardworking young folks doing their best. I wish I could say better about the restaurant and food quality for them.
Great service, easy seated at bar. The sake recommendation was excellent. I took the Trust Me option and was not disappointed. Having been to Japan, Hong Kong, etc. I found this quality of fish to be the best I've had in the US. Servers explained all the dishes, and they kept coming... Sake was more than I expected...cold, smooth and refreshing.
Love this restaurant! I would’ve given 5 stars but I have to be transparent. Not a fan of a server we had once. But other than that one experience it has been amazing. I always bring clients here for dinner when Sushi is the choice.
I have to say the food is actually pretty good. The only reason this place gets 2 stars from me is the portions are very small and they have this ridiculous additional fee of $10 on the bill stating it's for them serving the community and misc cost, I mean they are in business because of us. It's not the money but its the principle for me. So I will check out other sushi gigs in the area, and there lots of them.
I heard about this a lot ,but honestly it was different experience. Sushi at this place is on another level. Freshly cut fishes ? (Not frozen) just melts in your mouth. Specially I can't get enough of the Eel. Highly recommend Sugarfish. And the staff was so coordinated . It's just 3 servers but they handle all tables so well. So satisfied with service.
Hands down the best sushi experience I've ever had!
It was good! The food was excellent, and the atmosphere was fun and chill!
My first time here and it was such a great experience. The food was very fresh and tasty. In addition, our server and pretty much all the employees were very knowledgeable with the menu. Everytime dishes came out, the servers would explain each dish item. Great ambiance! I think the only downfall is that seating was very tight and close proximity with other guests. On the flip side, they do ask for proof of vaccine and ID. That help with our safety.
Good food. My girls loved the sushi! Japanese style - very good fish on warm rice. They have some fixed price menu’s and they loved everything. They even allowed a couple of substitutions. Fatty Toro was a big hit.I’m a roll person and they don’t have a big selection. But the crab roll and yellow tail rolls were excellent. The Nigori was very good.Very nice staff and good location across from Gower Studio and Gower Gulch
By far the best place I've been for sashimi. You can taste the amazing quality of all the ingredients. I don't think I can avoid this place if I'm in the area. I will definitely be back again as much as possible. I was so full but I wanted to keep eating because it was so good.
