This place is incredible. We are huge fans of Wirtshaus and the owners opened this place a lot closer to us. Start with a pretzel and a beer, and of course follow up with the schnitzel and/or sausage. I have so much fun every time I go here and my stomach always leaves happy. Don't forget to buy a shirt before you leave! Best addition to my wardrobe ever. Wish I could go here every day.
Amazing food and great deals on huge glasses of German beer! The vegan wurst was amazing and the sides did not disappoint. But I think my favorite part of the meal was the apple strudel. Don’t miss out on the pretzel, either!
Great dog friendly spot for very authentic German food and imported beer! One of the very few bars in LA that carry my favorite beer of all time, Augustine Edelstoff (must try if you haven't). The portions for the food are pretty large, with the notable exception of the obatzda that came with the Bavarian pretzel we wish we had more of. The sauerkraut was really good as well. Highly recommend - we'll be back for sure.
This is an nice but somewhat expensive little cafe that features German food plus a couple of salads and burgers. It struck me as a busy local cafe/bar that featured tasty German food. The German food is not oriented only around sausages like nearby Venice's Wurstkuche ("wurst" means sausage in German). The German food entrees here also incuded schnitzel - thin, pan-fried pork, chicken or veal - with 2 German sides. I ordered a schnitzel dinner with no appetizers or salad. There are 10 or so German and Belgian beers on tap along with a dozen more German brands of bottled German beer. The $8.50 .4 liter of beer that I ordered came quite chilled - I'd have preferred something closer to room temperature to enhance and change the flavors balance. Beers range up to nearly $10 per glass with liter and boot sizes also available. I saw a lot of people drinking liters of beer. The alcohol content of some beers on the menu was quite high. I was driving so I kept away from the probably tastier beers with the higher alcohol content. If with others, I would have tried the flight of beers on offer. Also available were wines (none were German), mixed drinks, soda and hot drinks. After my tasty dinner, I ordered the home-made apple strudel. It was quite large and was accompanied by a substantial scoop of vanilla ice cream. This dessert would work well for 2 people but I had the honor of eating it by myself. It was delicious. See my picture. It was quiet when I came in on a Thursday night. People were out front (including a guy with his dog) and also in the enclosed patio out back. It got a lot busier as the evening went on which explains how my sever got slow as I ate dinner. If I had come on a quieter night, I would probably gotten a more responsive waiter and would have then rated this restaurant at 5 stars. The staff was courteous but my waiter had too much to do. He did charge my phone for me, using my charger and cable. There are no plugs in the indoors dining area where I could do that myself.
Good food and beer, with reasonable price.
One of my favorite places in LA in terms of food, but service is not welcoming at all. The servant usually acts like he doesn’t want you to be ordering something or even sitting there! If someone from management of this restaurant is reading this message then please improve the quality of your service! I love your food, but I’m always doubting to go to your place because of the service.
Wow. Just wow. Words cannot describe this place. Absolutely delicious and unique with that downtown LA street food twist taken to the max. The entire vibe of the place screams Central LA. Everything from the decor to the loud 90s hip hop music is fantastically done to create a uniquely LA atmosphere.
Bunch of us stopped by, fun place and atmosphere. The impossible burger was great. Try the Schnitzel, you won't regret. Service was off, so deduct one star.
This place is awesome. Food is delicious and my partner loved the beer choices. Very tasty all around! The only minor complaint is that the wurst plates only came with one average sized wurst. My partner expected them to be bigger or have 2. I got the schnitzel and couldn't finish it, so portions for that dish are generous.
The food was good and authentic german. We shared the Jägerschnitzel (Sides: Sauerkraut and potatoe salad) and the Käsespätzle as entrees (very delic and authentic) and had the Brezel as Appetizer (nice warm and soft, just missing a few crunchy parts). The only downside was that it seemed they were understaffed. We had to wait a while to be seated, get the menus and the cheque at the end. The food came out quickly though.Because of that I will definitely return and verify if the wait was a one-off and adjust the rating in the future.
