Excellent service Good pastrami love extra dip

First time and the food was amazing. It was a great Dodger game experience

Nothing disappoints from here.. delicious breakfast and cuppa before an early train from Union station. Staff are always friendly, making the whole experience a great start to the day.

What can I say, that hasn't been said? This place is the OG. Are you in LA? Then you come here. Done. I like the horse radish on the side and yes I ask for a little extra juice to dip it in and yes, it taste amazing. Everything does. The pickles. Yum! The eggs, Yum. The beets, I dont even like beets and they are great. The beef? You gotta try it.

Great cafeteria style lunch or dinner spot. Plenty of sandwiches varieties, sides and pie. The beef couple dip was perfect soft and crunchy texture. Mustard sauce on table added a nice kick. If I worked nearby I would prlly be a regular as it’s quick and affordable. Flavor of meat did not blow me away but overall solid neighborhood joint.

This place was a pretty cool place. Was told this was a great place from friends I figured I’d check it out and it turned out to be good. Very interesting way to have dipped sandwiches. They dip the bread on the inside before make sandwich then that juic on the bread falls onto the meat of the sandwich. The only downside is it leaves the bread slightly soggy but it still tastes good. The sides tasted alright not the best. The people working there were super friendly and helpful as well. Not super clean by any means but it wasn’t terrible. I recommend this place if you are trying to find a quick meat sandwich.

Great sandwich and some of the best potato salad I’ve had in a long time. The service was fast and friendly and the restaurant was clean.

I don't know if the place is a tourist trap (I was a tourist in LA) but it was filled with local Dodger fans the night I stood in line and finally found a table. The sandwich I had (beef double dip) was great (the sides less so) and inexpensive. Despite packed to the gills, the line moved quickly as they had about 8 people taking orders and making your sandwich at the counter. It was fun. Like someplace back in the day before Instagram.

Located at the corner of Alameda Street and Ord Street in downtown Los Angeles, Philippe the Original has been in business since 1908, and has been in their current building since1951. It is one of most famous eateries in Los Angeles, as it’s the place where the French Dip Sandwich was invented (you can read the story behind that on their website). My son and I had dinner here in early February 2022 on our way to see the Los Angeles Lakers play at game at the Crypto.com Arena. On our visit we split a beef dip, a pork dip (both double dipped) and sides of potato salad, macaroni salad and cole slaw. NOTE that you can order your sandwich single dipped (one slice of bread dipped into the au jus), double dipped (both slices dipped) and or wet (the entire sandwich dunked into the gravy); and this is in addition to the au jus that is served on the side. Our side dishes were all well-prepared, and the sandwiches were wonderful – both the beef and pork were tender and moist, and when dipped into the au jus the flavor just exploded. This is an old restaurant, so the dining room didn’t gleam like it probably once did, but it was clean enough. And, the men’s restroom was very clean. The service we received was patient and cordial, and the prices, while on the high side, were not outrageous. We very much enjoyed our meal at Philippe the Original and would happily return.

This LA institution has been churning out French dip sandwiches for over a century. Got the classic beef dip with extra meat and a side of potato salad and it was very tender. Only USDA Prime beef is used here. It's a popular pre-Dodger game meal spot and has a free parking lot for customers. They also serve breakfast during morning hours and numerous fresh baked goods.
