Quality of sushi was good. The presentation in upscale boxes designed for take out was impressive. However, I was a bit disappointed in the crab sushi which had far too much mayonnaise for my taste. Who needs all this mayonnaise on a maki roll?I also downgraded my rating one point because of the 16% service charge they add to all orders, whether you eat it in the restaurant or pick up yourself for take out. I understand adding a set service charge for orders by people eating in the restaurant and enjoying some kind of service. But when I’m ordering the take-out food online, driving to the restaurant and picking it up myself, I really do not think it’s fair to charge me the same service charge as those dining in. What service did I receive? I paid it once, but would not be so foolish as to go back there for take out a second time! I’d recommend that you not pay 16% service fee for picking up your take out order either!
We got ours to go, but the counter seems like a nice, chill place to enjoy the sushi. The rolls were delicious. Simple, traditional hand rolls without all of the sweet sauce, tempura, multi ingredient kinds you find at many sushi restaurants in the U.S.
You stand up and wait in line to be seated. The seats are high and hard. Almost everyone was of College age. Everyone was nice and friendly including the Manager, Brandon. If I was of College age I would have given it 5 stars. The menu is limited and the Sushi is all wrapped in seaweed wraps. They add a 15% fee onto the bill and it states there is no tipping. I gave them my credit card and they gave me back my receipt without a place for me to sign - never seen that before. It is obviously the in-place for UCLA students as the place was packed. You sit at a U shaped bar, no individual tables.
Can’t go wrong with kazunori. Great hand roll. Super efficient line and usually no longer than 20mins to get seated. I usually go for the special or the other hand roll (uni, ika, And the crab roll). No need for tips but a fixed 16% service charge
Clean and simple, and delicious in its simplicity. There is counter seating which allows for a cozy experience - the chefs are right in front of you, making the hand rolls and handing them to you one by one as soon as they're done. This means there's some downtime between each hand roll, but that is perfect for either having a nice conversation with your lunch buddy, or contemplating the deliciousness of the roll if you're alone. The chefs work quickly enough, so you're not left waiting for too long.We took a set of five hand rolls - I was worried at first it might be too less but actually four would have been enough! Condiments are minimal - soy sauce, wasabi and ginger - but I didn't even need them because the rice on its own was so flavourful! Fillings range from tuna to bay scallops and they never disappoint - each tasted better than the previous one!An interesting feature is that in the restroom, they have two kinds of soap - unscented for before your meal and a regular kind for afterwards! There is often a waiting line here, but I say it is definitely worth the wait. Overall, it was such a good, engaging experience that I forgot to take any photos!
Top spot for sushi in the area. The server was really at tentative and payed attention tot he fact that I’m allergic to shell fish. He even changed his gloves and wiped down the table when preparing my food. The sushi was top grade. Very fresh and tasty. Would be back
Expensive! I got 5 rolls and a carbonated water for $33+. The rolls were small, so forget about getting full. The carbonated water were hardly carbonated, where was the bubble? A disappointment, I rather drink water for free. The lobster roll were cook lobster, not even raw fresh lobster for over $8+ per roll. Not returning.
Great place, very fast service, food was fresh. It’s an interesting concept, it’s almost like fast food sushi (I’m not sure how sushi is traditionally served) and it was the first time that I had sushi with warm rice but tasted good,
This place was a surprise. It was recommended by a friend and the surprise is that it's facade is so low key but the food once is so simple that makes it irresistible to stop eating. If you drop near UCLA stop by this place and enjoy a harmonious nori
Amazing little spot for hand rolls. Crisp seaweed, warm rice and premium fillings. Expect a bit of wait time, but it will be so worth it. Enjoy!
