Found among lots of touristy shops and restaurants, Gazen managed to serve up authentic Japanese izakaya fares. We only ordered their cooked foods since their ? didn't look all that good from other patrons. We had the sukiyaki and one of the grilled steaks, they are both pretty good, no complaints. However, what I would go back for is the tofu sampler. This is not for everyone, since it's straight up tofu served classic, creamy, and black sesame styled. The classic allowed the fresh soy taste to shine thru, while the creamy style has a hint of coconut creaminess. The black sesame flavor works especially well in a clean tasting dish like cold tofu. All 3 are very enjoyable for someone who like clean healthy eating, and don't rant their food to drown in sodium and sauce.

Did this just become my new favorite restaurant in Little Tokyo?! I enjoyed the Zabuton Beef Steak - YOU MUST TRY! It is so tender and the sauce complements the steak so well (it’s not like the typical teriyaki sauce that’s so sweet and overpowering). The soft shell crab roll is also to die for. It only comes with 5 pieces, but trust me, it is filling. Lastly, the classic tofu was alright. It wasn’t flavorful enough but I’ll gladly take the protein. I will most likely not order it again.

I had a subpar meal, didn't feel the need to finish my bowl as I didn't savor it. It's a shame since the inside is calm and lovely. Expect the food to come out at different times if you order more than 2 dishes and we had to ask 2 different waiters on the drink and food we ordered, it took a long time and the portions nor flavors were not worth the price. I unfortunately do not recommend this izakaya there are plenty in the area to choose from.

Parking - Validation within parking structure on S. Central Ave or street if there's any availableCame here for lunch and definitely miss their homemade tofu. Overall their sushi sampler and sashimi bowls are always legit.Overall service was average esp. since they were short staff within the kitchen. I'm happy they at least communicated and let me know.

Food was really good but the selection of rolls was lacking. Most of the rolls had meat that was seared or tempura, only 1 or 2 were fully uncooked. They did have items most sushi places do not like the cow tongue (yum!)

This Izakaya is located on the corner of the Japanese Village Plaza. It has a sophisticated kind of ambiance and would be good for date. The alcohol menu here is pretty extensive, spanning 2 pages with plenty of japan imported beer and spirits. I mainly came here for the sushi bar, but there menu also carries a lot of what I would consider Japanese diner food as well as tapas. Service here was very good, the servers were attentive to my needs, provided explanations for the menu items if needed and didn't bother you too often. Pricing here is a tad above what I would pay for for Japanese food ranging from 13-18 per an item and in the upper 20s range for premium items. If you're getting sushi, about 30-50 per a person should be good. I would recommend the echigo beer and one of the nigiri assortments.

This place is a true gem in Little Tokyo. I wish they brought back some semblance of a happy hour, but that didn’t stop us from having a fantastic time!I recommend their Japanese omelette, their wagyu / US streamed beef, and their sushi. Extensive sake selection and Suntory Premium Malts on draft!Solid mainstay of Little Tokyo and would strongly recommend.

What a lovely restaurant. There's a certain energy here -- the staff bring a certain level of energy that is positive and fun. The tofu sampler was lovely but I'd probably never order again. The karage was fried beautifully and it was delicious. The albacore roll was a winner too!

Delicious! Great price, great food, very kind and attentive service. They take cleanliness and protocol for COVID safety very seriously which I appreciate. Lunch specials are fantastic ?

very good, we had the sushi and one person had the chicken. everyone thought it was good. I has sashimi bowl w yellowtail, Maduro, and salmon.
