We read an article about Guyi's mapo tofu in the LA Times and decided to give it a try. We arrived when the restaurant opened and were seated immediately. We ordered mapo tofu, cumin lamb, popcorn chicken, honey walnut shrimp, and mixed veggies. The food came out promptly and everything tasted delicious, though the mixed veggies (yams and mu erh) was very bland. The cumin lamb and popcorn chicken were numbingly satisfying. Even though we requested mild spicy for the folks at our table with mild palates, they did not skimp on the Szechuan peppercorns in the mapo tofu, nor the chilies in the popcorn chicken. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you like spicy Chinese food.
We thought it’s an authentic Chinese restaurant, however, everything we ordered is wayyy tooo sweet than the real authentic Chinese food. I’m not exaggerating, even the chili oil is sweet in 夫妻肺片chili oil spliced beef… and sweet as f干煸四季豆sautéed green beans, even the soup in chili green pepper fish 藤椒鱼 is so sweet.. how many the hell sugar they put extra in them. The 辣子鸡Lazi fried spicy chicken piece are so small that they are so dry, not tasty at all, let alone it’s a sweet style spicy chicken…I asked the guy working there why it’s so sweet, he said bc this area is full of white ppl or non-Asian ppl and the restaurant have to make it sweeter and acceptable for them. What a pity for those who want real authentic Chinese food. The portion is small, after ordering 5 dishes plus 1 appetizers and 4 rice for 4 of us, we are still not full. Four ppl we spend $120 with unsatisfied and not-full stomachs. The service is bad as usual. We have to ask to bring us some water, and refill it. Even check bills never come unless I call them to come.We spend 3 hrs and spend $6 in parking. The first hour is 2$ and then every half hour is $1.All in all, if you are Asian or ppl who want to try real Chinese food, go to Monterey Park or somewhere more Chinese lives. Here are Americanized sweet dishes.
Sweet little place! I love real Sichuan food and this place delivers. Take-out too, lol. I don't know if they also deliver, but the Volcano shrimp was fantastic!
Very high-quality & authentic Chinese cuisine. We ordered 7 dishes and only spent $120. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to try authentic Chinese food.
This is our first time here and We will come back again for sure. Clean table ! Nice location! Amazing foods! Delicious!
Great service and a nice atmosphere, especially the outside balcony area. Will be back!
Best sichuan food in west LA. I wish more people could know this hidden gem. It is definitely better than the famous Sichuan Impression.
Delivery food was cold and less than before. The taste was okay. Would go again when return back to in person.
Finest place to have something when in a hurry. Their customer service is rapid, pricing is reasonable, great atmosphere. Will come visit again
I visit this place a lot since I work nearby. I got to say the customer service is always good and they keep the spot well kept at all times. Pricing is convenient and they serve generous portions.
