Tasty, innovative and quality food inspired by Middle Eastern cuisine. Dune is definitely the best restaurant in Atwater village and one of the best in LA. The staff are always friendly and helpful. I’ve tried everything in their menu and I can’t recommend this place enough.
Their Hummus plates are absolute legends. Their fried chicken beats out dedicated fried chicken restaurants. If you’re not eating here yet, then you’re missing out.
Ate the hummus plate with falafel so quickly was only able to get the pic of their baklava! Please go! It's amazing!
OKAY WOW. This place was good. Like, really tasty. Lamb plate for $18 was superb. 100% suggest. There’s clearly a good chef behind the homemade sauces, salad ingredient selection (included fresh dill & basil) and freshly in house made pita. Can’t wait to try the falafel next. Well done, Dune. ?.
Never a disappointment, always a sure fire way too save a day. The staff is super nice when taking phone orders. My order is always correct and delicious. I’d eat here every week if I lived closer. Get an extra side of bread and the yogurt dip. Perfect for breakfast. Love love love it.
Soooo good! Just like my brother-in-law makes! :-) Food came relatively quick and served to the nice little dining area outside. Bring a coat in the evening because the sun sets behind the building. Rosemary lemonade was a first for me and really nice!
Small spot. No indoor seating, and from the looks of it this doesn't seem to be COVID related. Their operation literally takes up all of their indoor space. You order at the window, and they bring out the food to you when it's ready. The outdoor seating is heavily limited. It's not obvious if the seating is public or exclusive to this restaurant. Not every table has an umbrella, but luckily it was a mild day.Food was quite good, but did seem overpriced for what it was. The fried chicken plate was delicious, but their hummus was better. I also got the chimichurri sauce, which is an extra $1 for a tiny cup.
So I’ve tried lots of Middle Eastern / Mediterranean food in the U..S and in the Middle East — and I was intrigued to try this place but had a love / hate experience here.First, if I came for a vegan meal, all the fresh greens and veggies, cabbage, turnips with something like falafel might have won me over, because the freshness and most flavors were cool. However, I ordered Lamb and Hummus.Hated - that it was ground lamb, not kebab or pieces of meat, 3 small falafel size meatballsLoved - the spice mixed with itHated - that they way the cook overdid the spice - tasting clumps of dry spice powderLoved - Salad and veggiesLoved - Garlic SauceLoved - The staff - positive, outgoing, kindLoved - Tahina Flavor, great sesame roast flavor, obviously homemade. BUT Hated - That they serious watered the tahina down. If they didn’t water it down, it could become a favorite.Liked Hummus -not loved, slightly sour - still good. Hated - watered down but not as much as tahinaSo, overall 3.5 perhaps. They use the medium meal container so here’s my take.If you are going for cuisine (vs home cooking/larger portions) and small portions then for me you have to fully execute and deliver on flavor and textures. They do well on flavors (except sour edge on hummus) and tahina flavor is 5 stars. But both are watered down. For me you can’t both cut portions, and cut corners to balance your margins. Watery tahina? Watered down hummus? It’s shying away from authentic texture and the wrong place to make cost cuts. The lamb spice was great, but seriously dry clumps of spice and no forewarning of it being ground meat was a surprise and a disappointment. So overallLove the flavors apart from Hummus sour edge and still liked it. A few changes and the meal could be really great, more authentic, less sour.I do like small portions when the flavors and textures are individually great and well combined and executed. Some of that happens here - but clumpy, powdery, over-spiced ground meat combined with watered down hummus and runny tahina is not how you should get there. To me you have to choose what you are. If you are cuisine, I’ll accept the smaller portions but you have to execute equally on flavor, texture and balance of flavors.3.5 Stars overall
Got the falafel hummus plate! What a great meal, the pita bread was popping. Really enjoyed it and loved the outdoor seating with the heat lamps. Cashiers were super nice and food is beautiful, full of colors and good for you’
It's currently sidewalk/patio seating that's a little tight during Covid surge. A number of other good places along the street too. And it can be very busy. Food was great.
