I love Blu Jam Cafe. This is my first time trying the location on Glendale and it's some of the best service you will receive on Los Angeles.Their approach to service is very West European. Which is a good thing. ? For instance you order at your own pace via the app, the waitress brings your food, then you enjoy. No waitress constantly checking on you to see if you're ready to order. No waitress has anxiety by trying to find the line between checking on you too much or not enough in fear of not receiving a good tip. Tipping is done ahead of time via the app.Speaking of tipping...this restaurant would be perfect if they eliminated tipping altogether. It's an outdated Great Depression concept. Build your costs into the food and pay the staff fairly. European countries seem to thrive without the tipping. It's just an overall better experience for the customer PLUS the waitstaff knows exactly what their take home pay is going to be.
Everything I’ve had on the menu so far has been top quality!
Food was delicious! It was our first time here and we loved it. It’s a counter-service or order via QR code at your table type of restaurant, where they’ll bring the food to you. Good, friendly service. We ordered the Steak Hash, Crunchy French Toast, and The Hangover Scramble. Everything was delicious!
Judge an American diner by its burger. The burger at Blue Jam was greasy, small and over salted. The cheese was low grade velvet-a like fake cheese. For $17.99 this brunch burger was way overpriced. You can go to Figaro Bistro for an excellent $9 happy hour burger or Bon Vivant for a large quality $20. Heck: go to In n Out for bang and buck. But not to this diner. This burger was worse than fast food takeout. I am not coming back here again because the food quality does not match the price and I left with a sicky, greasy feeling in my stomach. The hash potatoes were even worse: the salt and grease was nauseating. (And I love salty food. If I think it’s over-salted then they used an outrageous amount of salt and sodium).A pro: the service was accommodating and fast.Sorry, not sorry, but I hope this restaurant disappears from our strip and frees up the building for a better menu. Atwater deserves a better quality establishment whose ingredients match the glossy decor.
Ordered the Spicy Vegan Tex Mex Tofu Hash. It was delicious. Def recommend ordering for brunch. Parking was very hard to find. Parked two blocks away and the meters are only one 1 hr max. Had to get up twice in between brunch to adhere to the meter.
The service was fast, got our orders right away. The foods good too! ??
Their food would be delicious if they were able to follow extremely simple instructions. Three times now I've gotten my meal with no sauce because I asked for no parsley, even though the sauce is a separate option when ordering. This happened even when I specifically asked for sauce to be included. No idea who is behind this creative interpretation of customers' requests, but I won't be back.
Glad to know they opened this branch near our house (as opposed to DTLA). State of the art , clean, modern. No Cash accepted might be the new norm as we navigate our way on-line to order our food . French pressed coffee is a welcome treat, the Cali omelette was satisfying - sitting on top of nicely fried potatoes, the eggwhich was good enough to be saved for two meals. The mini churros was a delight. Despite the technology , less contact with staff & more pro active on-line , it still didn’t deter the staff to constantly check how you’re doing. I guess some things will just have to stay that way
Had been wanting to try the Blu Jam Cafe in Atwater. A guy just standing outside looked up from his phone and asked me if I was looking for a table. I had not entered the Cafe yet so got confused. I got a table inside and they were not too busy @ 10:45 on a Friday. I sat for the longest time and never ordered. No waiters in sight. It's 11:30 I am having Grand Slam @ Dennys just up the street.
I was looking forward to this location opening up in the neighborhood. It was considered one of the best places to get breakfast/brunch when I lived in the valley. Unfortunately, my experience here was horrible. I brought friends who were visiting from NYC and it wasn’t busy when we arrived. I agree with a previous review that they need some organization or clarity around what the best practice here is. Do we order from the counter? Find our own table and use the QR code? See a host? We weren’t greeted at all when we walked inside, but eventually one of the staff let us know our options and we opted to pick a table and order using the QR codes because that’s what we’ve become used to at other restaurants, especially during the pandemic. My friend and I decided to order separately on our phones, not thinking this would be a big deal because it wasn’t busy and we hit “submit” within seconds of each other. We’ve done this at other bars and restaurants that use a similar QR code system with zero issues. My iced cappuccino arrived shortly after ordering, so it was clear my ticket was received. A few minutes later, my friends’ food arrived. At this point I assumed mine would follow shortly since we ordered at the same time and again, the restaurant was not busy at all. 10 minutes passed, and nothing. 20 minutes later, I looked around at tables who arrived after us and they received their food. I waved down one of the staff and asked if my order got lost. Another 10 minutes later, a different person came out and put my order on our table, but said nothing about the fact that my friends were basically done with their food. He returned with extra plates we requested and my friend asked, “Did something happen with her order? You didn’t mention anything about the fact that it arrived half an hour after our food.” The server finally (insincerely) apologized and made some excuse about how if we ordered separately, sometimes other orders come in between and the food is made at different times. This made zero sense considering we hit submit on our phones at the same time and other tables who arrived a while after us were able to order and get food right away. Nothing was done to take accountability for their clear error or try to provide decent customer service. I worked in customer service for several years and never would have handled a situation this way. To add further insult to injury, my food was cold, signaling to me it had been sitting somewhere forgotten about. I was weary of being a “Karen,” but my food was inedible so I went inside to talk to the alleged manager, and she was even worse than the server who brought out the food. She continued to make excuses about “their system” and denied the fact that my order could have been sitting anywhere despite me telling her that my food was cold. She didn’t apologize or offer any kind of gesture to make things right other than offering to remake my food, and I responded that at this point, I don’t even want it because my friends are already done eating and she’s done nothing other than make excuses for the terrible experience. I asked for a refund and she claimed she couldn’t give me one, she could only remake my order. In no situation have I heard of such BS about not being able to refund an unhappy customer. I was firm but polite the entire time I attempted to reason with this “manager,” trying to be understanding because of my customer service background. I ended up leaving with zero resolution, just continued excuses from them and no real apology. I will not be returning and have already warned my family and neighbors to stay away from here.
