Exspensive and a disgrace. Can hardly be called Japanese food. The plating is a joke and almost offensive to look at. Sashimi is overpriced and not fresh. The fish had a strong smell and would fall apart in your mouth. Horrible texture a sign of bad fish. Ordered a beef sashimi as well for 15 bucks and it was sliced paper thin. Ridiculous. The tuna tartar was bland the the texture was like baby food vomit. Fish that had been thawed and left out for a while. Do yourself a favor and don't bother eating here if you have actual taste and standards.

This review is for the dining area and not the toppanyaki side of the restaurant. However the restroom that is communally shared was filthy and parts of the ceiling were coming down. My wife also went to the women's restroom and told me it is unsanitary. Bear in mind this is on Mother's Day around 6pm and the restrooms were a mess.We were given disposable utensils and soy sauce packets; mind you we were dining in and not taking anything to go. We ordered the truffle edamame which didn't have any umami flavor of truffle whatsoever. My wife ordered a salmon wrapped scalloped that tasted overly sweet and like a bunch of flavors just mixed together with no contrast or acidity to wash out or balance the overbearing sweetness of the sauces. My food was a little bit better as it was simply fried but honestly feels like it shouldn't be priced at $26 but rather than $18 for that dish once I received it.Our waitress only walked by once and saw that our drinks were low and refilled them. But never came back and asked how the food came out or how we were doing or even bothered to offer dessert. I had to flag down another waitress to get our to-go boxes and the check. Also, one of the guys who is running the food was coughing very loud in the back and coming out from the kitchen walking with plates and bringing back refills and walking back out. I couldn't help but to notice he wasn't wearing a mask or gloves the entire time he was coughing. This isn't exactly the kind of experience you want when you are spending $130 on dinner for two. Again disposable utensils, lack of attentive service, filthy restrooms and subpar meals that just don't live up to their prices. I honestly can't believe this restaurant is on the pier and fails to capitalize on the real estate it's at and deliver excellent service and cuisine.P.S. I'm writing this review while sitting on the ? cause to add insult to injury it upset my stomach.

The food and Chef were great, but the servers were below average. I expect better service from a place that charges hundreds of dollars per family and expects another $50 for tip..Drinks were not refilled on time, the wine glasses were dirty, and the Chef kept stopping because the server wasn't bringing his ingredients as needed.. Also, there were a lot of hidden charges I didn't expect, and I had to pay for parking even after validation. This is a nice restaurant and I might come again, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come to a place like this. They need to lower prices or raise the quality of service.

I came here on a short trip to Long Beach with my family and I loved it! The employees were all very kind and helpful! The food was mouth watering. The emperor steak was one of the best steaks I’ve ever had! I also loved their shrimp, soup, and salad. The atmosphere was nice and I loved it. Our cook was funny and made delicious food. The ice cream for one of our birthdays was really good! Overall, I loved this place and would definitely recommend it to anyone!!

Our ?‍? ? chef was very humorous and kept the little ones interested in the process of food making. The waitress missed bunch of requests and chef had to go himself to get them. Question to the waitresses: you expect a large tip from the dinners but have an excuse for everything, how's that fair to the dinners?

So many varieties of delicious food and friendly customer service.

Mix drinks were not good. Appetizer was good I ordered Tempura. Main food was okay. Presentation of preparing the food was great, Edgar was our cook.

My wife and I had our first date at Tokyo Wako 14 years ago and we frequent the restaurant at least 3 to 4 times a year (outside of the pandemic). We most always hit the teppan side though have had dinner in the a la cart section and have enjoyed the food, service, and atmosphere at both. We now take our daughter regularly as well as family and friends, often for special events. As there is nearby Aquarium of the Pacific, the Long Beach Lighthouse, and the Pike stores, lunch or dinner at Tokyo Wako makes for a fun and yummy day! Enjoy!

Very fun place and good food!

We sat at table, ordered rolls and sashimi combo. No plate for us until we asked. Plates were dirty.Rolls were good taste, sashimi was a total disaster, before we order we wanted to know what fish will be in the sashimi combo, waitress didn’t know whats in the combo. when she served the fish to our table ,it was smelly and soft, it was at least 7 days old fish. Not sashimi quality at all.Overall bad experience.
