My Uncle, John Scontriano opened John's Char Burger in the 1960's. He put his heart and soul into this restaurant. We use to drive there on "special occasions " from Hayward, which seemed like a long way in the 1960's. My Mother, K. Scontriano is his sister and she would say "Lets go to Uncle Johnny's Restaurant in Livermore and then go see your cousins and Aunt Helen, Uncle John's wife". We would be so excited to go see everyone and always go to Uncle Johnny's for a Burger, which were the best ever! I wish there was more recognition of its history but It is wonderful to see that it is still there. I believe the menu is the same as when he owned it. The last time I went there was around 25 years ago and it was under new ownership.
Absolutely one of the best cheeseburgers I have had to date and there has been a few all over the country. The patties were cooked to perfection with melted cheese all over. The produce used was fresh. The flavor was outrageously good.I will go back for sure and take family and friends.
Good food at cheap prices. My husband and I were looking for a place to eat on a budget yesterday and found John's. The place is a nice quiet little establishment, a good place to relax while you eat. I ordered the chili cheese fries and my husband got a char burger with cheese combo. Both meals were tasty especially the burger which was not dried out or cremated like other char burger places. We loved the burger much better than The Habit Burger. This will be our new spot when we come back to visit Livermore. I definitely recommend others to give John's a try. Thank You!
Heck to the yes! Best burgers in Livermore☺
If you are looking for a place that treats you based off your looks and appearance well you found the perfect place!!! I went here recently for lunch and the blonde woman who takes orders seemed to treat me a bit rude, very blunt answers, seemed to treat me based off my appearance! I was in my work clothes but regardless of my appearance, I should be treated with the same respect as anyone else in the restaurant. The order took forever and to make matters even worse, there was a hair in my burger =( I dont know why she would treat me in such a way simply based off my appearance. Very disappointed. I hope the owner sees this so that he/she knows that people are treated based off their appearance. I was respectful and used manners but it didn't matter. I asked for ketchup and ranch and she cut me off saying that it was in the bag, she clearly wanted me gone asap! I almost forgot, at the very beginning of our interaction when we walked in she asked what we wanted. No menu just "what do you want " I am never coming back to this place again.
Old school feel. Simple burger but tasted good. Definitely not known for their fries. Would go back if in the area.
If you're looking for something fancy you need to find a different place; However, if you want an old school style hamburger and other like comfort foods, you need to try this place out. What a great burger with that open fire char flavor that I love and with fries that are pretty darn good too. More matchstick style then most places, but they are very good.
Used to be the best burger in town when John still owned it up until recently... now you can't even get served... walked in, sat down and waited for 20 minutes for someone to come take my order...... needless to say I got tired of waiting and walked out. It's sad really, I've been giving John's my business for 20 years... I don't think I'll ever go back ?.
I would argue that John's has the best burgers for a burger joint in town. I decided to try the teriyaki chicken burger the last time I was in. It was also delicious! I do think the restaurant needs some updating, but the food is great.
Char burger is solid. Not the best burger around but very satisfying with very few flaws. The fries are spectacularly crispy every single time. Shakes are good as well, strawberry has real strawberries blended in. Solid 4 stars.
