Sezchuan chicken was NOT spicy. Honey walnut shrimp doesnt taste like 24.99. Taste like 12.99. Crab ragoons had NO FILLING. House fried rice and house chow mein was bland. Needless to say, won't be ordering from here again.
The Orange peel chicken had no discernible chicken at all, just small pieces of breading. No included rice. No sauce on the side. Nothing but inedible bits that I wouldn’t feed to a stray dog.
I was so looking forward to the food based on the ratings. It was disappointing to get “vegetable” chow mein that should be listed as “onion” chow mein. The beef skewers were tough. We had hopes of this being a great option. Maybe we just had a one off experience.
Very good flavor. Got the Sizzling Rice Soup, Chinese Chicken Salad, Kung Pao Chicken, & Shrimp Chow Fun. Everything was delicious. Looking forward to trying more of their menu.
Chose this place because the online menu included ramaki and paper wrapped chicken. We ordered both. The server brought the paper wrapped chicken to the table and asked what was the other thing we ordered. I told him and he was clueless. He didn't know what it was and after returning from asking in the back informed me they didn't serve that. I told him it was on the menu. He apologized and said he would let someone know. Not only did I not get what I went there for but the server waited until after bringing the other food out to ask what else it was that I ordered. The food was okay but I really wanted ramaki.
Great food. Staff was friendly. I'm often disappointed by Chinese places but that was not my experience here. It's casual yet great food. Just a solid place
recommended to us by the people at Power Cleaners (which we also like), just next door.very good food, reasonable prices, friendly and courteous service. my only negative is that they use Square for payment, which I don't like. But, we'll be back.Brittany Mauer-I don't disagree completely with your comment, but this place is better than others we've tried in the area.We ate there again recently and ordered a scallop dish. The scallops were apparently added in at the last minute into a pre-prepared sauce. There was little mixing of flavors, quite disappointing. But as I say the other places we've tried in the Lake Forest area are worse.
After reading the reviews, I’m not sure if I just had a one-off experience. I ordered two chicken entrees, one was mostly vegetables with hardly any chicken, and the other chicken which was breaded, was very hard and crunchy. The flavor for everything was good, but probably wouldn’t order again, based off this experience.
Excellent tasting food this time compared to the last time we went in November 2021. It seems to be one of the best in Lake Forest ?
New Shanghai is excellent and checks all the boxes -- delicious, fresh food, reasonably priced, small local, family-owned business, and great customer service. No delivery fees and food arrives piping hot. Mongolian beef and shrimp with string beans are the best (and low carb!!)...house fried rice and wonton soup are also favorites. Highly recommended!!!
