Ortega highway is such a fun drive, and the view from the top is great.
If you are traveling North or South on the 15 by Lake Elsinore take time off the freeway to have food and view at The Lookout Roadhouse, this is a hidden gem well worth the time. There is rustic inside dinning and a patio with a fantastic view of the lake and hang gliders simply fantastic. My wife had a BLT with a side of fruit. The toast was perfect with a good amount of bacon, tomato and lettuce. I had the Filet Mignon Tips with grilled onion and mushrooms in a Pita bread and a side of fruit. The sandwich was as good as good could be full of pleasing flavors. The fruit was very fresh and the Sun tea was amazing. The service was very neighborly friendly, and answered all my questions about the area. You will not be disappointed taking time away from your travel to visit this place.
Well it's not really hidden because it is right on Ortega Hwy before you get to Lake Elsinore. Drove by it many times and decided to stop and try some food. The Chile is just awesome, The chocolate cake is devine and the smoked ribs are worth the trip by itself. We will try again to hit the breakfast menu. Ribs were so good we got two orders to go! Did I mention the bean salad that comes with it? Say hi to Bruce, he runs a good place.
Magnificent view
This place is a National Treasure... so easy to just drive by -- don't make that mistake. Great food!!
So glad they reopened. Great food, killer view (when it’s not smokey from fires). Be sure to get there early if you want breakfast; it’s a local favorite for the motorcycle crowd.
Great Scenery, Nice Cocktails & Good Ambience
I stopped in to see the overlook view.. It is said to be a popular biker bar. I am glad I went inside for a look around. The restaurant was busy and had tables inside and a deck overlooking the lake. Very nice. As I was looking over the memorabilia on the walls the owner asked if we needed a table for lunch. We talked about the BBQ ribs which was a specialty and offered a sample. I could tell he smoked them for hours to get this deep of a hickory flavor. The meat was tender and moist. He has a good base run and excellent sauce recipe. . . There were about 15 cars and 15 motorcycle in the parking lot. Please, Slow down and use your turn signal because traffic moves fast on this two lane winding road.

We drove the Ortega Highway and stopped in for breakfast. Wonderful service, good food and great view. There is also outdoor seating overlooking the lake.
