Live in Laguna Beach, down the street from this place. Came in for dinner. The skinny waitress with the head kerchief ignores me. I grab a table. She say, “You can have this table. It’s ok”. That was the first of her salty remarks and poor service.I ordered a $20 bottle of cold sake. She never brings a cooler but provides it for the table of two WHITE people next to me (I am Hispanic). I asked for WATER and she says, “You want water TOO?” I say, “yes. Are you charging for it or something?”Ordered edamame and two rolls. Asked that she bring them after the edamame. She says of course and everything comes at once. Spent $65 dollars and ie. Of the rolls had fake crab meat in it.The waitress didn’t even ask if I wanted desert but dropped the bill off in front me of to ensure I paid (didn’t do this to anyone else). In fact, it felt antagonistic the entire time. Not sure I’ll come back but it’s the only place I hit when I am hungry but after this service probably not.
It was my first time on the west coast, and this place was incredible. While I amparticular about food, this is the best sushi I’ve ever eaten. Friendly staff too!
Food is great, their online system for takeout not so much, I never got a notification when my order was ready to be picked up
Incredible! The yuzu miso pep and truffle salmon were phenomenal. Even the salmon sashimi was unforgettable. Highly recommended...!
I can't say enough about how unbelievably amazing this food is.. it's not just food, it's art.. best sushi/fusion restaurant in Laguna Beach if not all of Orange County. The manager/server Dani is an absolute sweetheart and so knowledgeable.. You will not be disappointed ❤️????
Back in 2019, my mom and I were vacationing in Laguna Beach and stumbled upon this restaurant. We love sushi and have had exceptional sushi before and after this trip, but nothing has ever compared to 242 sushi! This was the absolute best sushi I’ve ever had anywhere in the US and every time I have sushi I automatically compare it to 242! I’ve even thought about flying back to laguna beach just for this sushi it’s that good! I will be back hopefully soon!
My brother pitched this as the best sushi restaurant he knows of. He is on to something with that assessment. Very creative dishes. Delicate balance on flavors. Beautiful presentation. Many gluten free options available, and they were willing to make adjustments. Only one minor issue that was partially on us - we missed that we were billed for one bottle of wine rather than one glass of wine, which they addressed the next day without any resistance.
Best word I can come up with - gross. I hate leaving negative comments, but the food we ordered goes down as the worst take out I can recall. I have two young boys who will eat anything, and they gagged on the chicken teriyaki (pic attached). The sushi, with few exceptions, was inedible. We just threw away most of the food (which was well over $100). I called the restaurant to let them know, and the response was, “sorry you didn’t like it, have a good night.” We are staying across the street at the Inn at Laguna Beach and I’ll let them know to warn others. Bad one.
We used to love it here but the service is simply atrocious. The last 3 times we ordered takeout our food was at least 30 minutes late. This last time was the end of our patronage. We ordered online and arrived 10 minutes late knowing the food would be delayed. The single working waitress asked my name and told me it would just be a few minutes and that the estimate I was given was wrong. I waited 35 minutes after that while people came and went and finally asked her when there was no one left what the ETA was. She looked at me blankly and said who are you? When I reminded her she said oh, your food is not due for another 20 minutes! (They had t even started) I showed her my receipt from the online order showing it was due so long ago and all she could say was "well there must be some kind of miss-communication. As you can see I'm swamped." (There was only one other take out patron there when I arrived). She then got extremely rude and defensive saying "what do you want me to do? How about an apology for wasting so much of my time and getting the order so wrong? If you have a probleM getting food out i time fix it or give better estimates.Miki, your employees are an extension of you. That will be the last time we order from 242.
Please don't put salad and salad dressing on my sushi! They even put salad inside of hand rolls. I used to love this place years ago. The chefs are not friendly and they are trying to be to different and cool.I can day the one server they have...And I mean just one! Is lovely.Over priced and not nice.
