It was fine :)
Great pre-theatre spot
First time visit. Enjoyed outside seating and dinner was fabulous. Convenient dinner before enjoying la Jolla playhouse entertainment. Note: parking is down the hill in a parking garage. There is a shuttle that ferries you up the hill for convenience.
our server, Garett was great. Bartender didnât get the concept of âmartini with shaker ice backâ 3 times. The food was good but every entree came with the same boring vegetables. Broccoli and Carrots are very un-Asian Fusion.
Food and drinks were subpar especially considering the location and price. Our waiter was great. Would not recommend to anyone for any reason.
My daughter and I enjoyed our meal before show at La Jolla Playhouse. Proximity of James Place to theater was perfect. We shared the ahi tacos, the yellowtail sashimi and a hamburger. All were good but we were surprised that no mustard and no A-1 or similar sauce were available for the hamburger...only ketchup. The restaurant was pleasant, but the windows were so dirty in the setting sun that they made the entire room feel a bit unclean. Service was excellent!
Table was not cleared in a timely matter. Everything else was great.
Food was average. Wait time for service was unacceptable. Will not return.
We had an enjoyable dinner pre-play at the LJP. We like the minimalist contemporary decor. The service was good and the food delicious. Our group had the ahi entree (very good), the calamari, seaweed salad and truffle fries. The fries were a bit disappointing as they didn't really taste of truffle (but they were crispy). The wine selection was very good, but my Manhattan was just OK. We'd definitely go back for another pre-play dinner.
I'm thrilled that James' Place has fully reopened for theatre patrons and is on Open Table for those so inclined. As a single I tend to love eating at the bar and visiting with folks. There sushi appetizers, created by the Chef/Owner, are absolutely amazing.
