Went here for a quick lunch and for the vibes everyone has been raving about online. I got the fried chicken sandwich ($16) and my wife got the Grain Bowl ($17). I was not impressed with my sandwich. The chicken was very thick so i didn't feel like it was cooked right. It was very wet and kind of chewy so I couldn't eat it. I was only able to eat about 1/3 of it before feeling sick. My wife was Egh about her bowl as well. Overall, I would say this is more of a vibe spot rather than a tasty food spot. Also, they add a 4% sure-charge as like a tip then add another 22% tip at the end of the meal. Just something to bring up. I believe they're in business more for the vibes rather than the food. Not sure if I would come again.
seems to be the theme in this area, food quality does not match the setting/view restaurants provide. Food was literally tasteless. service was mediocre at best, hostess almost begging for a tip under the table to seat you at the prime tables, which i normally don't have a problem with but let me offer, i do know how these things work. Many tables open yet they make you wait although you came on time for your reservation. sat at the bar while waiting and stayed there to eat n leave, much better view from the bar seats than most of the tables.
Our waiter Ditri was the best as was everything we ate, the spaghetti and clams were out of this world! The view is fantastic.
Lunch with a long-time fried from the area. We arrived early for lunch, opens at 11:00, in order to get a table since we did not have a reservation. A very popular restaurant and there was a line waiting to get in. Seated quickly and we did have a great view. I had a Grilled Salmon Sandwich; small piece of salmon, but tasty. The green salad that accompanied had seen better days--lettuce had brown edges, was not fresh. Had a respectable glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. My friend had the Chees Burger and said it was good.
We came here for drinks only. We met some people hiking at Torrey Pines and they insisted we come here. Drinks were good. And kinda pricey. But the VIEW is worth every penny. Then we walked down an alley between buildings to the seal beach. Bird nesting area too. George’s is where it all began. Did I mention that’s my name too? Fate.
The restaurant does have a view ! We were seated at the coveted ocean view table. We booked a table a week ahead of time for lunch. I can imagine it’s impossible to get a table during evenings or weekends. We had the Focaccia and also a Beets , Mozzarella salad for appetizer. The bread was disappointing as it was not warm. The salad was the highlight of our meal. Our main course were Fish Tacos and Heirloom Grain Bowl. The fish tacos had flavor but the corn tortillas were not fresh, restaurant like this we expected good and fresh tortillas. The grain bowl was good but lacked some sort of vinaigrette or like aioli for flavor. Go here for the view if you can get a ocean view table( get your jackets as it can get cold ) For the food, it’s not the perfect place … just doable!
Beautiful views of the coast. Very good food (small portions and expensive). We have dined here often especially with visitors. Unfortunately we will look for alternatives in the future because of the 4 % surcharge which is punishment of the customers for passing the minimum wage in California. If you need to increase prices for profit, do so honestly rather than seeming to serve meals at a lower cost then adding 4% as a surcharge. We routinely reduce our tip by 4% when we run across this scam.
I’m so so disappointed by this experience. We came here 5 year old and we loved here. And I saw George’s at the Cove joins restaurant week, so we come here with our friends for this special experience. But they don’t take Restaurant Week serious at all, the service is super slow and unprofessional. The foods are so so, they are not bad, but definitely not the level as I remembered at this restaurant. My friends fish taco is very dry, I think the street fish tacos probably taste better. And the most thing disappointed us are the cocktails, they are not cheap, all like $15,$16, but we double they put any alcohol in it?! I mean, maybe because it’s during the restaurant week, so they lower their quality? But they just lost me and my friends from their future clients list. Plus their bath is very dirty.
GORGEOUS VIEWS! Great food. I can't wait to come back. The peel and eat shrimp is really tasty. The salmon and steak were delicious. The chocolate dessert.....OMG!!
My wife and I came in for our three year wedding anniversary. We made reservations, got dressed up, and even though we didn't get seated at the window tables we still found our view to be delightful. We started with call drinks (Btw having a signature whiskey drink that isn't mixed with orange "something" would be nice) Caeser salad was fresh and the croutons are awesome. Wife had rigatoni , I had steak & fries. Both were good (hoped the steak would have deeper flavor), and would be worth ordering again. Dessert was creme brulee and a 10 yr port. Both were EXCELLENT. I feel like the only thing we missed was the standard of dress we used to see in these restaurants growing up. We ate next to people in sweatshirts with hoods on, slippers, Yoga pants, and gym clothing. I suppose for some people it's nice to see others not making reservations or even getting dressed up get preferred window seating, but I guess I was raised old school with dress codes and a reservation list comes first attitude.
