Great food and affordable. There was something for every one of my kids. The tacos are full of meat so they are really filling. The carne asada plate was my favorite.
This is a great beach taco shop. They have tasty food for fairly reasonable prices. A $5 taco will almost fill your plate. It's walking distance from the beach with indoor and outdoor seating (so my sandy boys didn't have to sprinkle all over the indoor chairs). I would eat here again.
Stopped here after a beach day at la jolla shores. Solid burrito and drinks. Can't complain friendly staff.
This spot is near La Jolla beach, and it’s wonderfully located. The staff is welcoming. I ordered beef relleno plate with rice and beans. It was so good! The portion size is definitely more than what I expected. Service was fast. For my drink, I ordered Horchata which is the perfect drink for the hot weather. Lots of flavor! U felt so full after eating here! Price is definitely worth it!
After finishing a kayaking tour in the ocean, we opted to eat a late lunch here. The prices are good and there is nice outdoor seating along the street. The food, however, leaves much to be desired. I ordered a beef taco and a shrimp taco - I had to visually inspect the shrimp to confirm that it did indeed appear to be shrimp. The beef was very stringy and I'm not convinced that it wasn't pork. And the "beef" really didn't have any flavor. The bulk of both tacos was lettuce and that's about it. My girlfriend ordered the chorizo plate and it was the much better choice. The meat was good and it also included rice, beans, lettuce, and guacamole.
I don’t really understand the bad reviews here. El Charro is a classic Mexican hole in the wall spot on a street of overpriced tourist traps and it’s solid. Your 8 dollar breakfast burrito or 2 dollar taco is going to be amazing or less amazing depending on the day. Always friendly, always fast, always edible.
The food at this place is just great! We had a chile relleno burrito, carne asada burrito and the tortilla chips are very good, good service and good prices.
First experience with carne asada fries and so far still the best.
I went here with my family, the food was okay. At the end of my meal, I went to the bathroom. They have a men's room and a women's room there, but both bathrooms are single use meaning they have one toilet and the door locks. The women's room was open, and I went in. When I came back out the person who had taken my family's order said "sir, you can't go in there, only women can go in there" First off, the worker does not know how I identify!, and secondly, it is California law to make single restrooms available to anyone regardless of gender. After a bit of time, I decided to return and say the following "Look, I don't often make a statement like this, but I found it disrespectful of you to assume my gender identity, and also it is California state law that single bathrooms must be available to both genders." The response said, "yes, but that bathrooms only for women." I then explained the law again, and then left. I found them to be disrespectful. I will not return.
Great place to get some good Mexican food and recharge after getting worn out kayaking around the cove. Got a burrito and, of note, it seemed like the tortilla was made fresh. Delicious!
