I had the Salmon Teriyaki and it didn’t look like salmon when it came out. Teriyaki sauce on top looked like gravy, so thick that it couldn’t drip off the chopsticks. The salmon looked like they poached it and just put the sauce on top. It came with a 2” piece of corn cob, broccoli, carrots. All bland looking.
We’ve been going to Matsu for 30+ years. The Teppan table is the bomb but you better have reservations, then you get dinner and a show. The food is delicious. Great place to take out of town visitors or relatives and the kids love it too. Parking is usually tough due to the restaurant’s location but come early and you can usually find a spot. You wont be disappointed.
Great place. Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere. Go with group and get one of their "Boats".
Super special place for me and my family. We have been coming here to celebrate most major life accomplishments for just north of 30 years. We enjoy the atmosphere, friendly staff, and most of all the good food! The sushi is amazeballs, the boat is our go to. It's an assortment of Japanese foods, loaded on a wooden boat. I remember being amazed as a child when they brought it out. Come for the vibes, stay for the food. 10/10 recommend!
An experience like none other in the entire San Diego county, much less Oceanside, a true hidden gem likely to not stay so hidden with all of the praises. Traditional Japanese cooking techniques work modern dish interpretations— a work of culinary art. Thank you Chef William & David for an amazing culinary journey that leaves me wanting more and craving dishes.
We love coming here and sitting in the bar, having a few Mai Tai’s, a few hand rolls and sashimi.Amy, the bar manager, does an excellent job of seating us and keeping our food coming out in a timely manner. We are not fans of their cut rolls but the octopus is amazing when you ask for it cut very, very thin. With fresh, thin slices of lemon it is awesome. I have not liked it anywhere else but here. The Poorman hand roll is our favorite. Maybe because we don’t like seaweed wraps and this roll uses soy paper instead. Add a few fresh slices of jalapeño and it’s sensational.Their sashimi platter is one of my favorites. Very large platter to share with a friend or two.Their Mai Tai’s are different from the regular cocktail and they will knock you on your butt after a few. Beware!Great dark bar atmosphere and lots of regulars. We enjoy it at least once a month!
Venerable Huntington Beach establishment. They offer the popular if not dated teppan dinnig. The decor it seems has not changed in years. The staff were nice and attentive...overall a good experience. Hours vary open for lunch till 2 then opens back at 5 or 530 for dinner.
This is my daughter's favorite Japanese restaurant and I am glad too! As a single parent, I have a budget to adhere to. Her favorite is California roll bento box with green salad and chicken teriyaki with miso soup. Haven't been able to take food pictures because she instantaneously eats when the order arrives.
I have been going to this place for 15 years and it is my favorite sushi restaurant. The ambiance is calm and relaxed even though it is busy especially on the weekends. I love the bite size of the sushi as other places make them bigger so you can not eat the whole piece.
Has always been a local favorite for over 40 years serving great food, sushi & Tepan & their famous Boat lunch plus friendly wonderful service
