I happened to come back on a day they were, for the first time, trying an outdoor food service. I believe (could be wrong, usually am) the chef is "a" chef at or "THE" chef at "Guisa", Latin fusion restaurant not too far away. Him and his wife were serving two different types of Pupusas and a Cubano sandwich. Both were absolutely delicious!!!! The wines and service at Portalupi were nothing short of spectacular. Can't wait to go back again!!!
We were very lucky to happen upon a pop-up event at the Portalupi tasting room featuring the food of Guiso Latin Fusion and Chef Carlos.I feel badly for not writing down the name of the young lady who served our tasting, she was passionate, knowledgeable provided awesome service!Their wines are amazing. Very smooth and approachable with a very California spin on Italian wines.All of the wines were very good. I recommend the Barbera shake ridge and charbono.Pairing their great wines with the food from Guiso Latin Fusion plus the incredibly friendly, fun and passionate energy of both staffs made this one of the highlights of our wine trip to California.Head over to the Guiso Latin Fusion google reviews for my comments there.You simply must visit Portalupi and Guiso Latin Fusion when you visit Healdsburg!
One of the best experiences I have ever had at a winery. Great wine. Great history. Amazing service. Can’t wait to go back to wine country next year, definitely going here again. A must. I even became a member.
Visited here today while my dad was visiting from the east coast and had such a lovely experience! So genuine, warm, generous and enjoyable - highly recommended. Wines, service, and experience were all fantastic! Thanks again for the lovely hospitality, Carolyn - top notch.
Don't taste this wine UNLESS you: 1) want to fall in love with THE BEST wine ever 2) want to ruin all other wines for yourself 3) want to drink cleanly processed, quality-made wine 4) want to crave it for the rest of your life. :) Also, the owners and every single one of the staff members are incredible humans. You're gonna love everything about Portalupi wine.
This is our go-to wine tasting spot no matter what mood we’re in! Pleasant, friendly, knowledgeable staff, with great wine to boot! We always feel like family when we come in, whether we have children in tow or not! Carolyn is amazing and always ensures a wonderful experience. The cute new patio is so welcoming also and we just love it there! Thank you, Portalupi, for giving us a fun “getaway” away from home. We love you!
I love this place. I make it point to visit every time I come in town. The staff recognizes me when I come in. We have no issues getting wine shipped to Georgia. Carolyn makes the process simple and easy. Plus the wine is delicious. Great place to visit due to great service, great environment, and great wine. Keep up the good work!!
Our visit was frustrating, we sat around with empty glasses for 20 minutes between each tasting, watched all the other tables around us get served and chatted up regularly. I finally had to flag down someone to get our 2nd tasting. All the white tables around us got service every time their glasses were empty, and we were consistently passed over. There were only 4 tables with 4 workers, there's no excuse for the lack of attention. I watched one lady there sweep a few leaves on the sidewalk for 15 minutes, but ignore our empty glasses. We cut out tasting short because it was so frustrating. After multiple years of buying wines here, this will be our last visit. Unless you fit their profile of old and white, you won't fit in here. Highly recommend Marine Layer across the street which had much better service and more comfortable ambience.
My rubric for evaluating a tasting/wine club/vineyard: winemaker knowledge, wine quality, grape variety, ambiance, courtesy, and thoughtfulness. Portalupi checks these boxes and more for us every time we visit! Winemaker knowledge is superb and it isn’t just Tim who knows… the knowledge is imparted to the staff as well! The shake ridge barbera is impeccable but it’s the variety and quality of all the wines that really sets this place apart. Sparkling barbera? Yes please! The tasting room is welcoming equally for large groups or an intimate tasting and we have been welcomed during the busiest of times with care by Carolyn and her team. And let’s not forget the details and thoughtfulness: the team has written down that I am vegan and goes out of their way to provide vegan food options for me to taste with since I cannot enjoy a charcuterie board. Thanks Jane, Carolyn, and Tim for creating this experience which is the perfect compliment to taste your wines! We look forward to our next visit!
Portalupi wines is a must see in Sonoma! I went with a large group of girls for a bachelorette party and they accommodated us with no problems. Friendly service with very knowledgeable staff. Carolyn especially, the tasting room manager was sooo great! Very professional but also just very kind. You will not regret this stop, for all things wine, during your visit!
