A favorite stop but not without a few drawbacks. First, we do miss the older owner, Dave very much. He is so personable and nice. The food here can be very good, very professional and feels more like a real restaurant than some other Mexican restaurants in the area in terms of quality. The pick up window for phone orders is a very convenient feature. Love the beans and rice as well as the chips. Everything is generally high quality. Now for the bad. The portions are very small in a lot of cases for the price paid. If you are a big eater you will possibly go home hungry. If you are a light eater you will not have "leftovers". Restaurants are more expensive than eating at home so generous portions should be the standard, even if you have a lighter appetite. Otherwise, they have a good menu though there is a general lack of ground beef options as nearly every beef dish is made with rump roast....which is great for some dishes, and not ideal for others. The shrimp used in the menu items is very fresh, the chicken is excellent in the fajitas but just OK in other dishes. The taco salads are excellent though small.
Oh MY! The food is soooo good here. If your looking for authentic Mexican food this is the place. And if you dont want to eat in, there is to go pick up in the back. Owners and staff all very friendly, go support our local Restaurants
So nice to have a fine restaurant in our area. They're always flexible and have wonderful food
This place has the best FOOD in Nevada County as well as the best MEXICAN FOOD in Northern California. I have tried a lot of the things on the menu! My favorite thing to order is the two item combination plate with a chicken enchilada and tinga taco! Cheese is so melts and tasty! It’s so much food for the price! My favorite way to tell if the Mexican food will be good is by how the beans and rice taste. OMG the quality! Casa las Katarinas has a good selection of vegetarian meals as well! They also recently started serving ice cream which is yummy! Chips and salsa are never empty on the table! The chef is the sweetest person you will ever meet and the servers are all top notch! I guarantee you will have a perfect dining experience here. No pictures because I gobbled my food right away sorry.
Was visiting a friend and let her pick a place to eat. I can see why she loves this place. It's brightly lit and spaced out nicely with both tables and booths. The waiter Dakota was very attentive to us and kept water and chips full. I tried the Camarones al Mojo de Ajo: shrimp with garlic and butter. So good so much garlic and other seasonings. Boyfriend got Bistec Ranchero. He loved it and if he had more room he would gotten extra tortillas for the sauce. Also Dakota brought out a green salsa which was a hit with the boyfriend. When we head over there again for another day trip we will definitely come back and take pics this time!?
We drive past this place alllll the time. Finally decided to try it. I had the chile relleno and chicken enchiladas. Both were pretty good. The relleno was filled with cheese. The enchilada reminded me of a place back home in LA, so good. The beans were not good, bland. The rice was good. The margaritas come with agave wine, not hard liquor, but still tasty. The portions are small. The burrito was 15 bucks! Small for the price. The service is good. Welcoming and friendly.
The chicken quesadilla with extra cheese came out like an absolute dream on a plate. Serious quantity/quality at a fair price at this location. Fantastic service as well.
The food is so amazing and the service was outstanding. Definitely real authentic tasting Mexican food and I WILL be going back and recommending to all my friends and neighbors. I had a meal AND got to-go for the next day. Totally worth the trip up there from folsom to grass valley!
I LOVE this place. Food is delicious. Service is always with a smile.
Good service, good food, not overly crowded, pleasant servers.
