Absolutely loved it for a few reasons:1. The owner is super hospitable and friendly!!2. The food is well priced and really high quality3. There's a really nice market near the restaurant area4. The store closes relatively late at 10pm, convenient for late workers/students

Kitayama is a restaurant and a grocery store that makes good quality food. They freshly make bento, donburi, and sushi everyday. I was skeptical at first since this place is a bit far out in Fremont. I was blown away with their poke bowl and onigiri. The rice was perfectly done, it was the best rice I have had so far. They gave a lot of fish for the poke and it was priced very well. The onigiri and spam musubi is cheaper than going to Osaka Marketplace. This place is worth going for food, but make sure you order ahead since it can take a while for your food to be made.

Fresh fish, nice presentation and really affordable. A hidden gem.

I've been going here off and on while staying in the area and the food is awesome, the staff are as friendly and welcoming as you can get, and I love the little Japanese deli and market that are connected. The chicken karaage, sashimi combo, chirashi, and tempura were all very, very good. The prices are probably the best we've seen for Japanese food of this quality in the Bay Area.

i went there almost every weekend during the grand opening for sashime, nigiri and sushiquality is going down so fast after grand opening.they put way too much rice on both nigiri & sushi, and the fish is cut so much thinner.sashimi cuts are getting thinner.with the price, quality & quantity,it is no longer worth my time and money anymore.i'd rather go to a real Japanese restaurant.

This was a mid-tier sushiya that suddenly closed and then revived itself as half takeout and half Japanese specialty store.I don't know who their supplier is, but they had some unique Pocky snacks at prices cheaper than 168 Market. The convenience store factor has been toned down and it's closer to what you'd expect from a DAISO or Ranch 99, with occasional specialty products.Takeout wise, their curry tonkatsu is a safe choice for a light meal. The curry udon is a bit too light, so I'd recommend ordering two pieces of shrimp tempura to get it up to a light meal. With regard to their sashimi quality, honestly, not bad. They sell some pretty decent cuts at a fair price. You can even buy the cuts yourself and serve it however you like at home.It does kinda feel a bit odd when you walk in and you see the convenience store packed into a backroom on your right, then the sushi counter in front of you, then the refrigerated section to your left. Seems like they're having an interesting time transitioning back to a full restaurant.

Always a fan of the chicken katsu curry and today decided to try the pork katsu curry, both are amazing but chicken has an edge here. Excellent curry, love this place

There are quite a lot of Japanese style snacks, sashimi, seafood, beef and other normal items. It is a paradise for Japanese foodies.

Fresh fish and nice owner. Price is reasonable as well.

Fresh, delicious sushi at a great price. Had the curry udon, chirashi don and takoyaki. Highly recommended.
