Ho Chow, how we have missed you! After moving east 25 years ago, we have compared all other chinese restaurants to this one. NYC, DC, didn't matter, none lived up to Ho Chow. My husband's go to dish was the honey walnut shrimp, mine the cashew chicken. While good at other places, it was never Ho Chow good. So after 25 years, while in San Francisco for vacation, we hopped across the bay for this restaurant. We were scared, you know, like when you meet your idol and you worry they'll disappoint you? Would it be like we remembered? Soon as we walked in and saw that the place was exactly the same, we knew we were in for a treat! We were not disappointed. We ordered our usual, egg rolls, pot stickers, honey walnut shrimp, cashew chicken and veggie fried rice. We ate it all. We made yummy sounds. We somehow managed to smile and eat at the same time. It was one of the highlights of our trip back west. And we've realized we need to stop comparing other places, the quest for an east coast version just doesn't exist. If you're anywhere near Fremont, visit Ho Chow. We'll be back much sooner than 25 years!
I've always been going to Ho Chow for last 15 years. First time I went with family after they opened for dine-in since pandemic. Was totally empty and didn't see usual staff. Food was as good as it always is. Except the Kung Pao was not the way I remember. Hence one star less.Service was good. Would have lived if they had some music playing. Only one table was occupied besides us. I know they do a lot on takeout since the counter is always filled by take out bags.
Great food and nice ambience. They were short of staff, as anywhere else.
Great food but they are short staffed so service wasn't great.
My personal favorite restaurant of all I've been to in my life (62 years). Fantastic food and great staff. I've been eating there regularly since 1991, so 30 years so far and it's been great all that time.
Expensive and food is nothing special.
GREAT food! Knocked off one star because they turned off the aircondioner and it was a HOT day. Refused to turn it on because they did not have enough customers and it was almost closing time!
Always great food and service. Lots of menu options
I normally don't post reviews, but feel compelled to write this one. The Mapo tofu is a joke. They used the hard tofu, cut big chunks mixed with sticky sauce, absolutely no flavor, not even spicy. We asked the waitress to take it back to re-flavor it. The dish came back in two minutes, still same except salty. Totally disappointed. The waitress was nice and hinted the chef/owner is moody. Also they used chicken to substitute duck for Tea Smoked Duck, hoping the smoke flavor will do the trick. I love duck and eat duck all the time, can easily tell chicken from duck.Stay away from unhappy and dishonest business. When I confronted the chef/owner. OMG he was rude.I went here before. It didn't register superior nor inferior. Somehow, this time food deteriorated so bad I hardly touched them.
This is my favorite restaurant in Fremont.
