After a visit to the Humboldt Botanical Gardens, our friend brought us to Gill's By the Bay. It reminded me of a diner—breakfast and lunch counter service, open kitchen window, booths and diner fare—with seafood options.Located next to the bay in Eureka, of course I had to have something from the water. I chose a simple Shrimp and Cheddar sandwich—Bay shrimp, mayo, cheddar on a soft bun. They didn't scrimp on the shrimp. The fries were crispy. My husband deemed the Seafood Chowder to be delicious, as evident by the fact that his bowl was cleaned out.While we didn't partake, the owners were making a goodly number of Mimosas and Bloody Marys. The pours were generous. We mentioned this as we were leaving and were told they were the most popular item on the menu.We don't get to Eureka a lot, but Gill's will be a destination when we go back.
Overpriced for disgusting food. I paid a $3 upgrade for runny seafood chowder that tasted like flour, my fried prawns were overcooked and chewy and had too much breading for my liking. My daughter's chicken tenders were hard and dry and she would not eat them. They deducted her meal and I paid for mine. For one meal and a kids milk it was like $35 so I feel that is extremely overpriced for what you get. We were extremely disappointed and I had to rush home to feed my 4 yo daughter edible food for lunch. We will not be returning.
We had grilled crab and cheese samdwich. And seafood chowder And fried shrimp,..all were delicious,,,but the pie....oh my word the pie. The is the closest thing I have found on the coast to a local diner. Staff were friendly and proud that most of their customers were local or referred by locals. Watch the time...they close early.
Love Gill's breakfasts. Love their crab omelette. Lunch is always good, too. We love to get the clam chowder & grilled crab sandwiches, on sourdough, w/a little cheddar & green onions, such a treat. Love sitting outside on a nice day. Usually bring the dog, and go to the beach, after.
Best seafood place in town. And it's wonderful to sit outside on a nice day. Their crab benedict is the best but make sure you get there before 11:00 a.m. if you want breakfast. If you don't quite make it for breakfast they're fish and chips is delicious.
Delicious bacon cheeseburger, delicious fries, delicious homemade thousand island dressing, lovely view, friendly service. Wonderful lunch. We ate inside, but they also have plenty of outdoor seating. Very excited to come back and try breakfast at Gill's by the Bay!!
Good breakfast, long wait though. It was worth the wait! They were very busy. My wife had the crab omelet, she liked it. Lots of crab in it. I had the English Scramble, it was good. Free refills on the coffee. We sat on the outdoor patio and it was very nice. It was a sunny day. Give your self enough time and you will enjoy your meal. We will go back again!
Great food and staff. Very enjoyable breakfast and super yummy. Eggs benedict cooked to perfection and attention to our table amazing.
The best crab melt around for sure, but the place is run by MAGA/antivaxxers. Don’t expect anyone making the food to be wearing a mask. Sit outside if you can.
Fish & chips! Best ever - really. Nice Louie with lots of shrimp. Local place really but we were ready to switch drivers.
