Came in Friday night. Tthe place can only seat so many & tables were still available. Started out great with wonderful drinks & amazing Brie appetizer in honey w/apple. Then things slowed down to a crawl & not sure why. Server stopped coming by, seemed quite stressed & finally our meal came. Please note-this place is not cheap which is why I choose it. I wanted good, fresh seafood & good service. My Linguine w/scallops & shrimp first off was not even warm. The shrimp, well these were small baby salad shrimp. The fried Combo seafood plate was seriously over fried & unfortunately & such an easy fix-use real fries not frozen - it’s not that hard to cut fries. The snapper was excellent. It would seem that coordination in the kitchen lacked. The server never even came over to see if everything was ok. There was also a glass spilled in the table & no one in sight, so when you have to go to the bar to get a towel, clean it up yourself & kindly ask for another drink because nobody is paying attention that didn’t sit well & I was unhappy. I think this place is good but certainly wasn’t on our special night.
Honestly, we came here for the setting. Read it was beautifully designed and a former brothel. We admired the bar and the Queen Anne exterior. We only had oysters and Humboldt wine, but for killing one hour, it was time well spent. Service was swift and polite
We were in town for Cal Poly Humboldt's accepted students orientation weekend. On the last morning, we wanted to have brunch somewhere on the waterfront and voila! Cafe Waterfront is a great family-friendly spot with amazing food and ample parking. Even the bathroom was decorated beautifully! This will be on our itinerary every time we visit the area!
Thank goodness for HANNAH (a new recruit just trying to help a chaotic situation) and her positive energy amongst a group of what appeared to be a bunch of unhappy, disorganized staff inconvenienced by customers. After being ignored by staff, a somewhat irked server showed up. Eventually she warmed up and became friendly and attentive. The Ferndale platter and Avocado Shrimp Salad were fine.
In town for the day sightseeing and wanted to wander around Old Town. Ended up finding parking right across the street from the restaurant. Did some shopping, which was fun in itself, but arms were getting full and we were getting hungry. Decided after putting bags in the car to see what this place had since it was right near the car. SO GLAD WE DID. Had a lovely breakfast scramble but my absolute highlight was the soup du jour - shrimp bisque. One of the best soups I have ever had. Seriously. I jokingly asked if I could get a gallon and John (our wonderful waiter) said he didn’t think he had anything that big. I did bring home 2 bowls to go from the road trip. My travel companion had the chili that she really liked too.
Hit or miss, occasionally you will get stuck with a bad server and if you really strike out you're also going to be there when there's a inexperienced chef in the kitchen cooking. But other times your going to have great service and great food. Either way, it's located in a historic Victorian style building in beautiful old town eureka near the waterfront and gorgeous eureka boardwalk
It's was simply great. I had the fried halibut and it was SO soft& moist very good but to be honest the appetizer the brie with chili& honey served with green apple slices was tasty also the kielbasa and cabbage soup was much appreciated to complement the Dewey cold outside. The house blend bloody Mary was also superb
Ordered the coconut prawns with sweet chili sauce, and the cajun red snapper with a side of clam chowder soup. The cocinut prawns were amazing! The snapper was even better! The clam chowder soup was so good that we ended up ordering an extra bowl and finished it completely! Staff was nice and helpful.. Def coming here again. Highly recommend folks to try it out!
Waiter spent most of the time hanging out in the back room and was oblivious to servicing customers. Food took forever to arrive, was mediocre and cold. Had to wait to pay the bill for the lousy food. have had ok food and service in the past. will not spend my money here again. do yourself a favor and eat at Brick and Fire for a nice meal
Great location. I thought the restaurant room was lovely and the features restored beautifully.Oh and the food and service was also excellent.
