Best doughnuts EVER. Its nice to find a shop that still serves classic doughnuts. The fires are so great for the quantity of the food. Bring cash! There is an atm. Make it your next stop when you pass by Escondido!
Oh my gosh! Ever since I was a little kid my dad always went to this donut shop when he went to San Diego. He went last night and brought home some of my favorite donuts. The quality is amazing and the taste is even better. They've been making the same amazing donuts for years. I completely recommend this place!
Their cake style donuts are incredible! The crullers were the most light and airy I have ever had. I'll be back, for sure.
Disgusting day old donuts. They're open til very late, but only bake their donuts once a day. You can tell by the dull luster of their glaze. Donut glaze (regular glaze, chocolate, maple, etc.) should have some shine to it. Next time you go, which I don't recommend, just take a look at their glaze. Also, a perfectly cooked donut's dough should be golden, not BROWN. That's a sign that it's either burnt, or they are using really old oil to fry their donuts in. After tasting it, it's probably both. Donuts should be light and fluffy, not heavy and dry. Bigger isn't always better. A box of a dozen donuts shouldn't weigh a ton, and if it does it's probably because the dough hasn't risen properly and its soaked in days old oil. Which describes Peterson's donuts. Plenty of other ma and pa donuts in Escondido. The best however is Crispy's in San Marcos. They're not as cool as this outdoor corner gimmicky spot, but you don't go to a donut shop for the allure and insta post, you go there for the delicious donuts. HARD PASS on Peterson's.
What an experience! Such a neat place and superb donuts. They are a cake like style which gives them the old fashioned taste. Peterson's is usually on the short list of the best donuts in southern California for a reason. So its worth a visit. They are open 24 hours too!
I’ve been eyeing this place for a while and the other morning I decided I’d grab some donuts. Parking was easy to find. I walked up to the stand and there was a small line, about four people in front of me but the line was moving fast. The people in line were very kind als9, making recommendations too me and just being helpful! They have an outdoor seating area with a menu posted to read while you’re in line. The donuts are listed but the description of the donuts isn’t listed so most people just pick once they got to the window. The donuts are on display behind the glass.I ordered a half a dozen and I believe I got a maple bar, another type of bar, a powdered cronut, a chocolate sprinkles cronut, a red velvet and an Oreo donut. The bars were delicious, the cronuts were a little messy but airy and worth it. But the red velvet and Oreo I could have done without, they were way more dense that the bars and cronuts and just seemed like the “kid” option. I didn’t end up eating those. The donuts were pretty long and tall also so I measured them.In the end I paid about $14 for a half a dozen, sounds about right for the size that they are. Beware of an extra charge on card payments, bring cash!
I decided to try the “famous” Peterson’s donuts today. I drove up and parked in their lot only to see the usual long line but accepted it as the norm thinking that apparently it must be good for the wait customers are willing to make. As I waited in line I took account of the price if each donut. I decided I would order 2 at $1.60 ea per the menu listing. I get up to order and I asked for an old fashioned and a chocolate glazed. Apparently my order was too complex probably because of language barrier. So after a few minutes of utter confusion I just asked for to glazed twists which was easy for the lady clerk to comprehend. She rings me up and says “ $5.50 please” Stunned I replied your menu board says $1.60 each. She says “ the prices went up”. I had exactly $4 on me. I was definitely not paying a $1.75 service charge to use my debit/atm card. So she says “how much money do you have?” I said $4. She took my money Bs says that’s ok. I told her that you guys need to update your menu as that’s not fair to the customer. While waiting I noticed and observed something quite interesting to me. It seems that when it comes to customer loyalty menus and price changes or even atm service charges make lo difference. A business’s reputation or so called popularity make no difference to a sheep-like-society. The lady in front of me had pre-ordered 3 doz donuts at a cost of $55.59 appeared irritated that her order wasn’t ready for pick up and the clerk took forever packing her order up yet at the end the lady still tipped the clerk. People nowadays seems to just accept higher prices and poor service based on public opinion or popularity of a business. This was my first and last visit to Peterson’s. The donuts quite frankly were just average. Certainly not worth the wait or the mis advertised price. Given the fact that inflation is already affecting out economy and devaluating out dollar, my advice…choose another donut shop. Peterson’s has outlived any reputation it may have once earned from its patrons. Winchell’s is still the king of donuts.
We were in the area and saw this place has a ton of good reviews. Gave it a try but didn't quite see what the hype is about. The donuts we tried were okay but have had better in San Diego too. Place is cash only and customer service was minimal and not too helpful. If in the area worth a try there were many other things on menu and we may have missed some good items. We just tried the glazed donut, Chocolate glazed donut and old fashioned chocolate donut.
Stopped at this highly recommended donut shop at 0900 on a Saturday. The line was long but moved rapidly as there were 3 windows open. The wait was only about 20 minutes The dozen donuts we purchased were well worth the wait. One of the best donut shops in San Diego County. Only issue, parking can be problematic. Shares parking lot with a market
First of all, I showed up at 3:30 AM, so they are indeed open 24 hours as advertised…going at that time is a great way to avoid lines…I got some glazed donut holes and a jelly donut. The donut holes were good, nothing incredible or unusual but delicious as expected. The jelly donut was absolutely amazing though. The jelly was so fresh tasting and had a great texture, the fill was perfect, the dough cooked just right. Probably the best jelly donut I’ve ever had.
