Food was good, but the service was lacking. Server was rude and generally unattentive. He forgot my beverage...being the only person who actually ordered a non-alcoholic beverage at our table I kinda let it slide, but his indifference didn't change until our friends who are locals let the manager know. We tried our best to be as respectful as possible even though our server acted like he didn't want to do his job.
This place is usually good, but something has happened recently and the restaurant is suffering as a result. The most glaring issue is the lack of staff. Long waits, and the sushi quality has declined. When there is only one cook it’s hard to put the effort into the food.I think they can rebound but they need more staff, hopefully they can find some. Unless their prices come down, or the service/quality goes up, I would go elsewhere.
Sushi rolls were average. Corkage high at $25; otherwise the only wine was from Solterra next door. Probably some good sake. Super friendly staff. Really enjoyed the live music on Tuesday.
Great food, terrible service. The wait staff clearly does not enjoy working at this location. They were extremely rude to my party. The food was the only saving grace. We ordered several rolls and they were very good. The spicy tuna was my favorite roll.
Our family has been here once before (pre-COVID) and frankly I don't remember it being this good. It's a small space so things can get cramped, but that's ok. Service is friendly and efficient. All of the flavors hit the spot - my kids loved the edamame, ramen, pot stickers, and basic rolls (California and cucumber). My salmon sashimi was well cut and had great flavor and texture (not monstrous slabs like other local sushi restaurants). The ikura (salmon roe) was also fresh and the right bite size. But seriously, I think I had the best hamachi kama (collar) I've ever had, anywhere. Perfectly cooked with all of the delicious morsels of fish and fat and skin. Can't wait to have Kai Ola be in our regular rotation!
I had a baby a few weeks ago and I have been very excited to have sushi again. My husband made a reservation for 7pm, we called before we arrived to let the restaurant know we were coming with a stroller. The man who answered the phone reassured us they would find a way to accommodate us as the restaurant is quite small. When we arrived, the hostess offered us a small table out front that didn’t work for us. We asked to wait for the same size table with more room for the stroller, but she told us it was reserved for someone else. She was very rude and pretty much told us she couldn’t help us. The man we talked to on the phone came out and talked to us, said he would look into getting the table for us. He went in never came out, when he did come out he ignored us and would’ve talk to us. After trying really hard to get his attention, he told us they were now combining the 2 tables for a bigger party that had just arrived with no reservation. We made reservations and got dressed to come out to a sushi dinner after having a baby and we were treated so badly because we had a stroller. We asked if we should just leave and the hostess said yes. I am very disappointed because we have been coming to this restaurant for 3 years and have spent a lot of money here! Will not be returning or recommending this place anymore.
Kai Ola was decent sushi with a great location in Leucadia. Some of the rolls we ordered were very very citrus heavy and they use a lot of rice in comparison to others in the area.
Great service and awesome staff. My wife love's their sushi! I had a beef dish which wasn't that great, but can't really blame them as its a sushi spot. Wish they had a better selection for the other half that doesn't eat sushi lol. But my wife can't stop raving about the sushi.
Everything tasted good. The presentation of the rolls were inconsistent. Our Moonlight roll came in 9 pieces. The other roll came in 8 pieces with an end piece the size of my thumb. I don't feel like their knives are sharp enough because the rolls looked rough on the edges. Sashimi is my favorite but the price for 4 slices was more then I wanted to pay so I didn't get any.
Delicious. Moonlight roll was really good , lots of flavors
