Really wanted to give them a chance. Was at my nephews game at Tuttle Park just 3 blocks away and called in to place a phone order for dinner. It was 7:02 and the gentlemen on the phone let me know they stopped taking phone orders at 7. I get businesses need certain policies in place to be able to run smoothly but really? 2 min over and you tell me come in to order instead of over the phone? Uhhhh wouldn't it be faster for me to place my order so your cooks can finish and start prepping for close? Either way, I guess you guys did fine during covid if you're turning business away so quickly
Ribs were fantastic! Lots of tender meat, very little bone. Sampled my wife's ham and brisket, also great. Sides of French fries and macaroni salad were very good, but the baked beans were the best we've ever had. Lots of bacon in there and such a sweet sauce! They didn't get 5 stars because of the "French roll" served with every dinner plate. Just a plain white bread hot dog roll straight from the Costco package. No flavor or freshness. They should save themselves a bit, and just stop including it. The optional dinner salad was nothing special but was not one of the standard side dish choices; it cost extra. Also they should re-stripe their large parking lot to eliminate wasted space and add a few more parking spaces.
This restaurant is a San Diego time machine. 60 years in the same spot, and I've been coming here for over 30 of them. The moment I climb the narrow concrete stairs, and swing open the door; The aroma takes me back to the countless meals I was lucky to share here with my father and grandfather. I can almost feel his hand on my shoulder as I approach the old movie theatre style menu, letters yellowed by years of wafting smokey deliciousness. My meal comes on a well worn plastic tray, in a segmented plate, with the cheapest of hand rolled flatware. Pepsi in a 70s era plastic Pepsi cup, bendy straw and all. The same as it ever was; the epitome of function over form. I gaze around the dining room as I quickly devour the plate of memories before me. The same old western paintings, buffalo and moose heads that have adorned the walls for over 5 decades, stare back at me. They seem impressed with my Gluttony. As I slide heavily off of my chair, corners torn from years of satisfied customers doing the same, I take one last look at the menu, and contemplate taking a sandwich for later...
Best Family BBQ Ever!I was born and raised in this town and I have been coming here with my family for several decades. Their food NEVER disappoints. The ambiance is old school kind of like Utah in the 60;s. The old guy cutting the meat has been there a long long time. I remember around 30 years ago going there with my mom and dad and after ordering my dad discovered he didn't have this wallet on him. We were crushed until the guy said no worry, just pay me when you can. Who does that?!? That is how nice these people are. Their portions are just fine for a normal person and their BBQ sauce is absolutely awesome! I will keep coimg back. until I die or they close the doors. There is no better. And ,oh yeah, the prices are reasonable too. Thank you Wrangler BBQ
I had not been here for awhile thanks to the lockdown so went in and had my favorite; Ham Sandwich and fries and beans. My companions had the rib plate with coleslaw and mac salad and beef sandwich plate with fries and slaw. I am pleased to report it was fantastic! I do not know how they do it except for experience. They have been here for over fifty years, same recipes, same patient slow cooking obviously, great end result. Absolutely fabulous. Just like their burger counterparts (In N Out) they have not succumbed to the chase the customer concept with a bunch of new products. There is no chicken or fish, just great old fashioned barbecue! Great service too. Arrive at the counter, place your order, grab your tray and sit down; enjoy!
My family and I have been coming here for as long as I've been alive. The quality and consistency has never changed. It's always been the best barbecue food. This is not an exaggeration when I say this is my favorite restaurant on the planet. I moved from San Diego several years ago, but this is always the first place I go to when I visit.
All the meats were perfectly smoked. I've been in California since 1986 and this is the best barbecue place I have had since leaving North Carolina barbecue. DELICIOUS!!!!!!
