Disappointing experience last night. Problems were mostly staff related. Ordered 2 meals (dine-in) at 5:59pm. Gave my phone number for text alert and went and sat down. At 6:15pm - still no response I went back to the counter to check. Was told the salmon entree was ready but they were waiting for the fish & chips to be plated. Went back to my seat - two minutes later got a text alert that my meal was ready. Went back up to the counter but there was no food ready for me. Counter staff got the salmon entree on my tray but the sweet potato fries we ordered as a side (and paid extra for) was not there and still no fish & chips. They ordered the sweet potato fries and gave me a plate of fish & chips but it was wrong because I had ordered it with double fries. They found my correct order but it had been sitting there as a "to-go" order so they had to re-plate my order. Waited some more for the sweet potato fries and finally about 6:25pm I had everything (or so I thought). My wife had ordered her salmon plain (no sauce or seasonings) but sure enough, there was a sauce on top that she had to scrape off. So getting the food we paid for was a real challenge. I will point out that all of our requests (plain salmon, double fries with fish & chips) were all accurately reflected on our order receipt.On the plus side, the actual meals were very good. Kudo's to the cooking staff for that part. The only other downside was that the zucchini side that came with the salmon was barely warm because it had sat out so long on the counter (salmon was still hot). Good food has generally been our experience here. But the staff was clearly not on their game last night. Will we return - probably. They do serve great food at reasonable prices. But the staff here definitely needs to improve over last night. They weren't shorthanded either. There was plenty of staff on hand (guessing 8-10 employees), but definitely not a smooth running team.
Lately, I've been searching for a good fish grill restaurant.While traveling in East County, I came across this place, California Fish Grill in El Cajon. I didn't know much about them nor their menus. So I Googled search them.Wow! I didn't expect there are so many menus to choose from.So we went and I ordered a seasoned Salmon with mixed veggies to our liking (grilled asparagus and bristle sprouts) and a buttered fish and chips.The Salmon was grilled and seasoned perfectly. It came with grilled asparagus and bristle sprouts. It was delicious. Hmm...The other order was fish and chips but I subbed it with saute zucchini instead of French fries. The fish was served, crispy on the outside and moist in the inside. To my liking. Another excellent dish.If you're in East County, stopby at the California Fish Grill in El Cajon (next to In-n-out Burger).The place is clean, friendly staff, a very welcoming establishment, plus it's newer and they also have an outdoor dining.Restrooms are keep clean and tidy.Parking maybe an issue if you dine-in there during peak hours, like lunch and dinner.I recommend this place. 5 out of 5-Star.Good eats.

Always amazing!! When I found out California Fish Grill was out here in San Diego I was super happy to find a healthy option compared to where I’m currently living. My got to is the Keto Shrimp Bowl but this time around I wanted to try something new and refreshing. Got the Sea Bass with Diced Rosemary Zucchini, White Rice and a side of Grilled Asparagus. Absolutely amazing and friendly staff.
Love love love this place! Everything is good that I have had so far. My favorite is the asparagus! Always recommend this place to anyone looking for fresh food and friendly service. Please bring back the poke bowl. Everytime I go to El cajon they don't serve it. Bring it back!! All fish lovers you won't be disappointed.
First timer. Friendly staff. Food was actually flavorful. I got all the sauces and sides I wanted no extra charge. No complaints, will come back ???

Food is greasy. The fish tacos I had earlier gave me a bad tummy. Garlic butter is good.
I really like this fish grill and have been here more than a dozen times. I've had their fish plates and fish tacos, and every single time the food is fresh, cooked well and delicious. I'm not a big seafood person but this place has me coming back. The servers are nice and food comes quick.
