I usually enjoy small businesses and like to support them. Initially I loved the classic look and was super excited to try the food but then I tasted the food. I ordered the breakfast potatoes, the chops and eggs and the steak and eggs meals. Honestly I’m starting to see why their crowd was all older in there. The food lacked flavor completely and even adding salt and pepper at the table wasn’t enough to make me want to eat it. The gravy for the biscuits and gravy was like Elmer’s glue mixed with sausage and was repulsive. My server wasn’t attentive and had an “I don’t want to be here” attitude about her. Honestly at over $60 in food I’m sad to say that none of it was worth more than $20 and I won’t be returning. I will say though that the lady who rang me up was kind enough.

Thought the cute retro 50s look would translate into fun food. Not happening! Menu was bereft of any options. Just basic school cafeteria quality. Gloppy clam chowder that was mostly potatoes and a grilled ham & cheese (Velveeta & mystery meat). Waitress didn't even know soup-of-'the-day. It was 1:30 pm!! Don't waste your money unless you have an adolescent yearning for the cafeteria lady.

Great service, great food. Had veggie omelet with fruit and wheat toast. 50s style environment. Salute to veterans on 1 wall. My friends loved the place and we will be there again. Thank you!!

What a great locals Cafe! Waitresses knew everyone by name. My first time so I was "Sweetie". Fun 1940s & 50s music and decor. Counter, tables and booth seating. Great All American breakfasts and lunches. I had Hot Italian sausage, scrambled eggs, home fries with bell peppers and onion and a side of two puffy pancakes. Delicious.

Been living in El Cajon over 10 years, my first time here. Pleasantly surprised. Service was excellent, food was great. Love love the decor. Will definitely be back!!

Great food. Not very many of these grill house diners around. Definitely a treasure when you find one.

Consistenly good food at decent prices. Staff is always friendly and attentive despite being one the business joints in El Cajon. Portions sizes are also reasonable to fill you up without feeling like you're wasting food or need to have a 2nd breakfast elsewhere. Our favorite servers are Shasta, Judy and The owner Debbie. Alex the chef knows exactly how I like my cornbread hash and even though it goes against the principles of burning food and takes a lot longer he delivers it.

Love to eat here! People, atmosphere and food are nothing less than excellent.

Recent ownership change seems to have affected quality of food. Slice roast beef with peppers and onions and a half melted slice of jack cheese is not a Philly cheesesteak. If you can’t make the item just remove it from the menu. By coincidence my wife had the same thing from another restaurant in the area. The one that looks delicious is not Bonnie‘s.

What a quaint place, we wanted a breakfast while shopping and found Bonny's Cafe. Great home cooking, good cup of coffee. If you find yourself in this area and want a good meal, can't go wrong here!
