I like the ambience of this place and the staff is super friendly. I enjoyed the steamed bun with Katsu and every roll was delicious. I will definitely be coming back.
I was told that it is the best sushi ever, but I have found less fancy places that have much better food and it is less expensive. Amakara is on a busy street, most probably with a huge lease, which we pay for. I believe if they can have a better and less expensive location, they can pass the savings on to their customers. I know that there are really expensive locations for some fancy restaurants, but the quality and design of their food matches their location. I don't feel like it was the same in this case. Plus their service was mediocre for the amount they charged...
We had a great time! There was a wait on a Friday for dinner as should be expected; Parking was easier than expected; Great menu choices; Excellent sashimi, fresh and tender not tough; Server was very efficient, didn't tell us her name; Overall very good experience
Friendly staff, fresh seafood, delicious food (both raw/ cooked). It’s def a wait here. It’s now my go to whenever heading to Truckee!
Went here on a weekday and had to wait because they don’t take reservations. Their sushi rolls were unique and delicious. The portion size is pretty big, two sushi rolls were a lot for me and my husband. Although we were full, the temptation to resist their dessert was difficult. Got the fried ice cream and it wasn’t bad. Definitely going back for sushi rolls!
Honestly, it was really good. I enjoyed the atmosphere but there is a bit of a wait. The spicy rolls were so dang good! I’m definitely coming here again.
We just celebrated a family birthday and it was perfect! 3 members of our family are Sushi aficionados and they said in chorus, one of the best meals they had experienced. The place was packed and it’s no wonder. Good and service was superb. Finished with their Grilled Pineapple Sundae in place of birthday cake! Don’t miss it!!!!
Sushi at amakara is great. Parking is absolutely terrible. We initially tried coming here on a weekday in December but it was jam packed. We were able to get seated without having to wait a few weeks later. Wait staff is very attentive and knowledgeable.
Finally got in after trying multiple times - either the wait was too long or couldn’t get reservations. Food is very flavorful. The happy hour menu has good choices but limited (most of them $2 off regular prices). Especially liked the spicy poke.Worth the visit… book ahead of time.
We liked it. This is our go-to place for sushi when we’re in the area. Has not failed us yet.Though got to wonder why the fried Philadelphia is cheaper than the regular one, instead of the other way around? Either way, both are good and left us filled.
