Great breakfast with friends. Portions are more than ample, which is a trademark for them, I believe. Service was prompt and courteous. Must try the fresh squeezed OJ, it's so sweet! We always leave full and satisfied! This location needs to renovate their booths, the seats are losing the cushiony feeling. Feels like you are sitting on straight wood. But there are table and chair options, too.
Love, love, love this place! Be sure to come hungry. They’re portions are large. You definitely get what you pay for regarding quality and quantity. The servers are friendly and attentive. The Black Bear hot sauces were so good I had to take one home with me!
Decent restaurant for a breakfast or brunch, but the dinner here is something you should probably skip. Black Bear is known for their large portions and fun atmosphere when dining in.
I was here for dinner and overall it was a good experience. My server was efficient and fast. I ordered the chicken fried steak which was quite satisfactory, I liked the sauce too. The cole slaw however was bland and didn't taste fresh at all, seems like it was sitting on the fridge for days! Perhaps they should make an effort to improve the cole slaw or remove it from the menu.
We go to Black Bear often and absolutely love to have Alli wait on us, she is an amazing server no matter how busy she is. Always comes around at least once to check on us. I have to have my eggs scrambled very well done and she always makes sure they're done right! Alli definitely deserves a huge raise ? ? ?
Went here with my good friend. We had a very interesting conversation which dominated our attention. Andre, our server, was incredibly professional and polite. He always seemed to find the best opportunity to interact with us and I appreciate that Black Bear Diner hires such amazing people. The classic eggs Benedict I ordered was also amazing. The meat was pastrami-esque and the egg was cooked perfectly. I also love that they serve fresh squeezed oranges that aren't too acidic. Overall, I look forward to coming back next time I visit my friend in Davis!
Great food always my only concern was the waiter cleaned a table touched dirty dishes then handed me my food without washing his hands i know COVID and masking maybe be optional at this time but hand washing is a must
Not the best Black Bear location, but the food was consistent and tasty. Food was a hefty portion size and a good deal. Service seemed to be lacking slightly. It seemed that there was a single manger-type that had their life together, but that was about it.
Visited black bear diner for breakfast today because the girlfriend wanted waffles. She ordered scrambled eggs, sausage and a waffle. I had the biscuits and gravy, eggs over easy and ham steak. The sausage did not taste great, did not seem high quality. The ham steak was literally a small quarter cut from maybe a 6 inch diameter piece of a ham. Disappointingly small serving of ham. It had decent flavor and seemed good quality but was overly salty. The eggs we fine nothing really to say about them. The biscuits were undercooked and the gravy wasn't particularly good either. The waffle we originally were going there for was boring and didn't have great texture. Girlfriend only ended up eating half of it in the end. The coffee was good but when I asked for creamer they sent me some imitation milk creamer that was horrible. I had to ask for half and half but they did have it and my coffee was saved. Service was friendly but not enough to excuse the food. Had some huckleberry ice cream it was the best part of the experience. Ended up being around $35 plus tip for 2 mediocre plates, 2 coffees and one scoop of ice cream. I'll be looking for better waffles and biscuits elsewhere.
My parents introduced me to this place and now I have come to identify it as one of my go-to places when I'm on the west coast. It's good reliable food and plenty of it. Service is always pretty attentive and the environment is fun. It might be a little bit pricey but we get a good meal with helpful service in a relaxing atmosphere.
