Truly a hidden gem in the area. A refreshing change of pace from downtown Danville or City Center (San Ramon) that offers super service, creative cocktails, vibrant views, and fantastic food (my first burrito there was literally more massive than my infant :D). Highly recommend for happy hour, date night, and/or family meals (kids will love the ducks and geese off of the patio).
!! HORRIBLE SERVICE AND DECEPTIVE BUSINESS PRACTICE !!My family And I decided to try Choza for the 1st time this evening. Let me start by telling you that if you expect any kind of service then this is not the place for you. We waited so long for someone to greet us and offer drinks or food. Anything needed throughout the night we had to flag someone down for, water refills, more chips and salsa, more Tortillas for the fajitas.....They do not gauge the needs of their guests well and it honestly seems like they don't care. The food was average, at best.We ordered the fajitas because they looked so appetizing when a server brought them to a neighboring table and the sound of the sizzling dish had us decided. But after waiting over 25 minutes for our fajitas, our plate arrived and there was no sizzle. The dish was warm, and it was clear that it had been sitting in the kitchen for some time. The steak was flavorless and tough. We had already decided we would never return. After waiting over 10 minutes we finally got the check.....we quickly gave the server our credit card because our kids were getting tired and we needed to get out of there asap! The check and credit card receipt arrived and I quickly reviewed it. Only to discover that I was being charged $4.95 for using a credit card to pay!!!! What on earth!? Would it have been so difficult for the server to notify us of this ahead of time? I wonder how many people dine in their restaurant every day and do not notice this fee? Furthermore it typically costs businesses on average, 2.5% to process credit cards. So why are they charging a flat fee of $4.95? I wonder if they are charging the same fee to unsuspecting people that come in to buy an appetizer and a soda!?I've not spent 10 minutes of my Friday night writing this review, but I would want to know this before going to any establishment. Take your money elsewhere, there are several great Mexican restaurants in Danville.....
Food was great, service was poor. Ran out of ingredients during lunch and timing of service was long and all over the place. Unfortunate, really enjoyed the food here. Some additional context since ownership has replied:Entering the restaurant was fine, good crowd for farhers day. First impression from the wait staff felt very disconnected. Although she was able to find a table for my family (4 adults 2 children) without a reservation, communication still felt really flat/awkward. She didn't seem like she enjoyed working there or perhaps she was having a tough day? After being seated, it took AWHILE to get anything really ordered or even brought to the table. Getting water's were a struggle, time between visits were infrequent (in the beginning).Next up was actually getting the good. Remember, they were out of sour cream and guacamole. We were informed about that while ordering our meals. Since we waited so long already (and have children) we decided to stay and go with it. Several of our orders had sour cream or guacamole as part of the meal...which was a bummer but we went ahead (again. Kids. And now really hungry). To wrap this up quickly. Appetizer took awhile to come out (nachos...with chicken on the side - we have vegetarians in our family) came out with chicken right on top. Some entrees came out with the Appetizer and timing was just all over the place. They forgot about (or didn't write down) one of our entrees (they didn't charge us for this as mentioned by the owner) but came literally when we were on our last bites for lunch (oh and sour cream was now available)Drinks were offered (no thanks. Kids) and a handful of apologies (appreciated) but there was just no real (didn't feel real) concern about service. Really explanations about the logistics of ordering food in anticipation of crowds etc. I sympathize. It's tough right now.To answer your question about how you could have done better about the 2 stars...Remove items from the menu for missing ingredients. Or discount them. (Waitress said ownership doesn't discount anything. Even for employees?)And lastly. Invite me and my family for a second chance. The ball was really dropped here. I wouldn't say intentionally but it happened. If an offer to come back was made with an ask to try them again. I wouldn't be here.
Before anything else, you jeed to know that this place only carries non-mass prduced tequila. Dont expect Don Julio or Patron. Expect something that the servers can personally speak to and recommend. The servers (almost all whom are involved in ownership) want you to enjoy your experience. Make sure to say hello to Patricia, Edgar, or Fernando. The food is good. Some dishes are amazing. I highly recommend the chips and salsa, the fajitas (get all shrimp), and others. The enchiladas are only good if you get them fresh. You can't go wrong with tacos. I can't speak to other dishes, but I'll stick by my get-it-fresh recommendation.Enjoy!
Food was very good, the service was excellent and the margaritas were delicious. The in-house made chips and salsa were also very good. There are out door seating available by the pond with ducks swimming around. That was my 2nd time and will definitely go back.
This place is amazing! The atmosphere is a total VIBE!Makes you feel like a beach vacation on every visit! The food is fire, and has great authentic flavors! The margaritas are lit and delicious! The mango margarita is the best with a dried mango to set it off!!!
Excellent enchiladas. Big, meaty and tasty, you need a fork and knife to eat these. Corn chips could be better, but all the main courses are yummy.
Great food and great staff! Edgar makes a delicious paloma- you won't be sorry!
Food was good. Mojitos were great! The fresh made corn tortillas were excellent!!!
Great ambience. Wonderful service. We went on a Monday evening. Though there was steady flow of people, the service was very prompt and lot of individual attention. Food was amazing! The on the house chips were very fresh and crisp. We ordered a few drinks and main dishes, skipping appetizers. Ample portion sizes on the entrees. We were so full and canceled dessert plan. All in all definitely recommend to visit here for fantastic food and service.
