The menu caters to older locals with midwestern tastes; barely seasoned steaks, super bland mashed potatoes & vegetables. Burgers are good, so is the service at the bar.
We are glad Val's is opened for indoor dining again. (8/4/2021) We had the onion soup, pancetta shrimp, prime rib and southern fried chicken. Service was as expected and their cocktails weren't bad. There weren't that many people having dinner but the bar was full. We chose to eat in the bar room instead of the main dining room because of the televisions. The Olympics were on and it was nice to have something in the background. The only minor nit was the southern fried chicken. When I bit into the drumstick, a bunch of oil exploded and some of it fell onto my shoes. They were limited Jun Takahashi x Nike. I'm kind of upset about having this weird oil stain on my shoes.
Val's is always awesome. It was especially good to go after this last year. Val's will always be one of my favorites. Always enjoy the Popcorn Rock Shrimp appetizer, the Veal Picatta was superb, my friend said the Fried Chicken was excellent. Cant wait to go back!
Great spot for late prime rib lunch with all the fixings. When I'm alone I like to eat at the bar lounge.. makes you feel like your with company, very old school. Price is pretty reasonable. Welcoming and friendly good service
The food is good, nothing spectacular. When you walk in, you're hit with noise from the lounge of a senior crowd at the bar. The service was outstanding, the food arrived at our table fast. Our server was super considerate and very thoughtful. But it is very expensive. The fried chicken dinner was $22. The least expensive item on the menu was a cheeseburger at $12.95. Needless to say, I will not be going back to Val's. There are much better places to eat in San Francisco, that aren't as expensive.
Greatest old school restaurant on the peninsula....The best service and food.
This is a great spot Right off the freeway. I stop here if I'm hungry when I'm going to or returning from the airport.Super dependable and very reasonable. It's the poor man's Joe!Seriously though this place has its own old school charm.Yummy food good drinks and parking.
Dark, old fashioned, and delicious. That's describing the lighting, the decor, and the food. I really do like this place, and I'm very grateful that they survived the pandemic so far. Never go wrong with prime rib!
Friendly enough staff if you can get get their attention away from the locals which is everyone there. Decent food.
Went to Val's after a memorial for my cousin. Service was great..food was GREAT! We each ordered something different but everyone commented how good & fresh everything tasted. Cant wait to go back!!
