Bad experience with the wait staff, food quality, and incorrect orders. I feel like they are trying to get their sea legs back after the pandemic and haven't got it right yet.

Customer service was great That's why I gave it three stars. As far as the food was not impressed I ordered my steak medium It came out well done and charred and crispy My wife ordered the black and red snapper which was also over seasoned and dry. Other than that it was okay but I will never get a steak here again.

Super cute cozy restaurant. Gives off a very retro vibe. The bar looked gorgeous and it seemed rather spacious. The food was good. I enjoyed the dish I got. I would say I wish I got a steak but I was trying to be fake healthy. I will most definitely go again when I can.The only thing I would say is that the calamari was pretty salty but I still enjoyed it especially the sauce!Plus side there is a small parking lot. Which is great I was able to find parking easily and get in and out without a problem. Also it seemed like a great place to take your kids as well!

This restaurant is Around the corner from my house. Ive been coming here to eat every once in a while for the last 4 years and I have never have a bad experience. Servers are always nice and food is tasty. I love the old fashion atmosphere here. Not the ultimate millenial- hispster everyone is looking for. I am glad it is still open during Covid. Please support small businesses like this one. Restaurant industry is still suffering. Businesses like Vals are really important for the community as they provide employment for a many low income families. I want my children to have a place like this one when they grow older.I had a margarita and a take our order and everything was delicious.

Very poor service, I was told I could not have pasta with my dinner, then admonished when I asked what I could have with my veal. Then the waiter brought out one meal, forgetting the salad that was ordered. We waited for the other meals while the first got cold. When we mentioned the salad to the waiter he said we are really busy do you still want it. He also forgot a wine and the condiments for the cold burger. He never checked on us, or asked if we wanted anything else. Meal was ok, but service spoiled it. We have eaten at Vals for years and never had such an experience.

Stayed in The Hampton Inn a few doors down and walked to Val's not knowing what we were getting into. Best food in the San Francisco area and the dining highlight of our week touring the coast. I started with the delicious French onion soup and then ordered the filet with mashed potatoes, savory gravy (yum) and mixed vegetables (with asparagus!): 10/10. Husband ordered the clam chowder (he says it had lots of VERY tender clams and was the best in San Fran and we had it at 4 other nice restaurants!) and the linguini with clams. He's a chef and he was blown away with the sauce and the dish - he was tempted to use bread to get every last drop. Our server, Will, was perfect: attentive, friendly, informative and always available but never intrusive. The restaurant has an old-fashioned charm. Make reservations so that you don't miss out. We will go again....and again...

Pretty standard old world. Good steak and prime rib. Cocktails are good. Service was good initially, the took a nose dive. Probably would just go to Joe's in the future.

Could be so much better. Please try harder. Give staff a hire salary, don't push them so hard. We had to wait for a long time to get served. The kitchen was so busy, and they brought the food out in a very disorganized way. But we still liked the food. thanks.

Old school steakhouse that serves up delicious food! Great food and service with a perfecly cooked steak, what more do you need?

The menu caters to older locals with midwestern tastes; barely seasoned steaks, super bland mashed potatoes & vegetables. Burgers are good, so is the service at the bar.
