First time trying this restaurant and the service was horrible. The owner or waiter (older man) gave me and my sisters racist vibes; it seems as if our presence was an inconvenience. We left after he impatiently attempted to take our order. Do not solicit if your black or brown. Definitely does not give a welcoming energy.
I used to love coming here when I lived in the city. It's a very small place and hard to get seating on a busy day. I had my bday here a couple of years ago but now I came in with my friend and the service was not what I remember. Wines around the world is amazing and trying it is spectacular. We didn't have that experience this time. We sat at the bar and got a list given to us. My friend is new to wine so she asked a lot of questions which seemed too much for the 2 servers who helped us. It was more of a condescending better than you attitude I felt. She still tried 2 wines and I had 1. We had 1 dessert the flourless chocolate cake and I took one bite and stopped, good thing my friend still ate it. I understand people don't know wine but don't make them feel less than and also money is money and we still paid our check with tip bc it's what you do with no complaints.
My friends and I were dressed to impress on a Wednesday night visiting LA. Waiting to be seated, the staff member asked if we were eating or drinking. We responded with drinking as we had finished dinner. We were rudely told "Not happening, we aren't a bar guys." I respect your rules but the staff member was outright rude. Bar is in your name, so how were we supposed to know. Not sure if he was in a bad mood or the diversity of our group prohibited a friendly interaction. Practically empty restaurant, with a non rowdy group willing to spend, and this is how we are treated. Highly recommend you look elsewhere. The food and drinks were amazing at Hatchet Hall next door!
Decided to stop by and have a drink with some friends, but were told they won't allow us to order drinks without food. Literally as you walk in there is a full bar... guess they didn't want our money. Made sense why the place was almost empty. Ended up at Hatchet Hall next door, which turned out to have an awesome drink menu.
We were waiting at the door to get in and the greeter came out. All of us were dressed up from having had a nice dinner at hatchet hall next door. Told us that they weren't a bar and to go somewhere else. Very rude. As a group of minorites, it makes me wonder what the motives were for barring our entry. We understand if they wanted us to buy food but the bar was empty and we weren't being loud at all. Just wanted a quick drink after dinner.
So apparently this is not a bar. We tried to come in at 730pm on a Wednesday, having just eaten at Hatchet Hall (excellent) to get a drink, and were told to leave unless we planned to order food. Even if it's the case, the way we were told was so rude and uneccesary, must not be open to new people or diverse groups.
I've always wondered why nobody is here and my first visit showed me exactly what all the 1 star reviews were talking about: rude staff. Not sure why everyone is mad at me for trying to give them money but this was my second time trying to give them a fair shot. Didn't even get to order any food because the attitude is such a turn off. Shame because the bar looks really cool.
Went to brunch on what I’d consider to be a busy time. It was super chill and no wait time. The service and food were fantastic and the price was reasonable. They make lattes perfect. The ambience is down to earth. With so many high end and great restaurants/bars close by, Detour seemed like a perfect middle ground with price, comfortability, and food.Get the BLT-E or the crabcake benedict. Mimosas were $6.Again, so worth it after a busy weekend!
I went to have brunch. They denied us telling me and my spouse it was closed and said we can sit outside. We had just seen someone welcomed to dine indoor. I feel it was a discrimination! Would definitely never go here again!
TLDR: Hostile staff, can’t order a drink without food, no happy hour of any sort, burger was a 4/10.Came to Detour Bistro on a Tuesday for an early dinner. I just moved to the area and wanted to check out my new local restaurants. Started off with me walking in looking around for a host/hostess to greet me only to notice an older man sitting at the side of the bar on his laptop staring at me. After an awkward minute I finally asked if they were open and he rudely answered with “are you getting food?”. He seats me (i’m the only one there) and he asks me what I want. I ask if there is a happy hour (it’s 5pm on a Tuesday) he says no and I mention that a daily happy hour is mentioned in previous reviews and he follows up with “we haven’t had a happy hour here in 2 years”. I say okay then, i’ll just have a Pacifico, and he again asks “ok but are you ordering food”. He forces me to order food at the same time of ordering my drink?? His tone and approach throughout my visit made me feel straight up uncomfortable. If this man is the owner of the restaurant he is simply self-sabotaging his own business. You’ve lost my business and I definitely will not recommend Detour Bistro to any of my friends.
