It was our first time trying omakase style sushi and we can't compare the quality to any other place. But we love sushi and the this place didn't disappoint. Excellent service and quality of fish for a Wed evening dinner. We will return.

we almost left because the place looked a little rough on the outside. I asked a nice family enjoying dinner if they had been there before. “It’s a hidden gem” was what she told me. We stayed and had great service and great food!! I had the Rainbow Roll, Scallop Sushi, and it was delicious!

Was very excited to find this "hideaway". Great food and service. The soft shell crab was amazing and the rolls were some of the best we have had for a long time. Will definitely be back.

We were greeted at the door by the friendly and nicest guy(manager/owner?)Everything we (my daughter and sob)ordered was fresh and very well made. He made a suggestion, we ordered that too!It was the best part of my birthday day!

A excellent sushi restaurant for Japanese-style (individually hand made pieces) vs American-style (long rolls sliced) sushi. Had a 仕事納め get-together to start off the New Year's week holiday and went all out with delicious sweet shrimp, uni, oysters and more! Sampled the range from the most basic to the more pricey dishes to test what Kakurega's good at. Everything - except the karage - disappeared quickly and happily! Well made, tasted fine, and an easy $230~ for two with beer! Now, that's not expensive when you consider that we planned a year-end celebration treat with many of the more expensive dishes. There's quite a few choices that will happily fill you for less, so you can eat dinner here for two under even under fifty. The karage was the only pedestrian choice, but with Tenkatori nearby specializing in making very delicious karage, can you fault a sushi restaurant - of course not! The parking is ample for the small restaurant, easy to access on Fair Drive or Newport Avenue. Decor is plain. A sushi counter to the left of the entrance, the rest filled with a few widely spaced tables. Not the splashy decor of the now closed Kitayama, but a spot you don't need to dress up for. The board above the sushi bar lists daily fresh seafoods - do ask about prices if you're not after expensive delicacy check surprises like fresh sweet shrimp for $18 per, which was delicious. Oysters were fresh, tasty, and a dozen happily vanished in no time. Oyster selection is small versus a dedicated oyster bar like at the oc mart mix, but perfect for adding to the range of seafood you can select from at Kakurega. Service was efficient, accessible. Do keep in mind last orders must go in about 40~ minutes before closing.

About 85 for omakase of 13 pieces of sushi, dashimaki tamago, and chawanmushi. Tasted great.

Food was yummy but the cuts were on the thin side.

Very nice people very good food Japanese style like in Japan

It's good food. Great service. May i suggest a garlic dip for the chicken karage? (Sunflower oil and fresh garlic in a paste).Good sushi.

Sorry but this place lost a returning customer tonight. It is 9:23pm and their Google hours are posted open till 10.Their OPEN sign was on.I walked in with my spouse and the staff looked at me like I was crazy and said awkwardly, “our last call is 9:30pm”.I replied “it’s not even 9:25”, and left. As I’m writing this, they turned another couple away.Hundreds of dollars lost, that could have been made in 15-30 minutes.I hope the owners read this cause every time I’ve been here, it’s empty. No care about income I guess.
