This is for the Laguna Niguel Location: I never give reviews this low, but we were just yelled at for putting in an order over the phone and their employee not taking our phone number, therefore they sold out of what we ordered and weren’t willing to even apologize. And when I say yell, I mean yelling at my mom with a terminal disorder and me, her pregnant daughter. The woman yelling claimed to be the owner, and when we asked for her name, she replied “you don’t need it.” This happened at 730pm 6/19, and I knew they’d sellout which was why I asked to order ahead when I called at 10’ today. Absolutely horrific.
I like this place. Staff is friendly and considerate and even though it is an order at the counter type of restaurant they still make a point of coming out to check on you to make sure that your food is all that you hoped it would be. I appreciate that. The food is good. The ribs are some of the best I've ever had. The focus in this restaurant is really the meat the barbecue sauces are not the big deal it's the meat. And the meat is very good. I also think the potato salad and baked beans are great the blueberry cornbread was good. I've also had the Stacked house I think it's called which is brisket and pulled-pork sandwich I enjoyed that very much. My husband loves the tacos. They are just a pile of good white meat chicken on a couple of tortillas but for him that's exactly what he loves. So if you want a good reliable BBQ experience this is the place. The only thing I would say is that they are sauces could use a little Improvement. They're not quite as full-flavored as I would like. But as I said the meat is the star this place that in the service!
I used to live in Costa Mesa over 10 years ago. "Discovered" this place shortly before moving back to Santa Barbara. It was in my top 3 places of food that I miss. Now whenever I have to go back down south I make sure to plan for a large order pick-up. Owner Gary and his staff are always on point with my large "catering" style orders. My friends here at home love it when I travel in California, especially to The Beach Pit because they know a true picnic-style pig-fest will ensue. This last week was, as always, the very best Bar B Q in So Cal. Many comments about how the sides were so on point in flavor and consistency. I really wish it wasn't a 2 hundred mile round trip as I woud dine there more often. On the other hand it makes it so much more special to have time-of-anticipation between visits... Many Thanks to Gary, Angel and the peeps in the kitchen doing the heavy lifting. All Hail the tastiest Bar B Q from the OC !
Been wanting to try this place for years. Door dash made it easy. The food was excellent. Enjoyed, choice of 2 meats and 2 sides with corn bread meal. Tender and tasty. We've added this to our regular go to place for take out.
Small parking area, but there's plenty of parking on the street. Seems to be a lot of seats, and every seat has ketchup, bbq, and a roll of napkins.I ordered the pull pork sandwich, I was told by the server that it was the fattest. I was disappointed with it, mostly because the sanwish was very dry. I had to drench it with bbq to taste decent. But the sweet potatoe fries were amazing! The service was fast, and the waiter was overly friendly. For 20 bucks I can say I was not satisfied. Better places are out there that have the fatty content I require. I found this place randomly while I was doing a few things around this area. I wouldn't come back to this place.
Another hidden gem gone “meh” when ownership changed. Clapboard signs, gone and replaced with hipster standard cookie cutter z gallery type decor. That good black crust from the grill on everything, not on anything. Dry chicken, even the sauces are different. The brisket was alright but as mentioned, no crust and no ring. The sausage had a single line of brown from… I’d say the grill but I’d sooner believe it was from a hot microwaved plate. Collards were bitter with way too much file or bay, beans taste like sugary salsa. The only thing that remains unchanged is the cornbread recipe, too much baking powder as always. But I love it because it’s unchanged. Cook forgot to flour the berries first though so they all sank. Compared to the average “bbq” chain, it’s just that- comparable. Coulda gotten the same cheaper at any of them. It’s not the Pit anymore though. All the sparkle and grime are gone, I’ll miss it.

We love this restaurant. Best bbq we've ever had! Ate there today and it did not disappoint. Anytime we're in OC, we stop by. We like all their meats so much, the 3 meat platter is the way to go. Then you can share and have a little of everything. Staff is super friendly and kind as well.
Walked here from our granddaughters' house. Wide variety of choices for dinner that satisfied kids and adults. Very good ribs; delicious and plenty of them. Same could be said for the fries. We ate outside, which was nice and roomy.
We had pull pork & brisket sliders with sweet potato fries for lunch. Excellent food & service. Petite & Cozy dining area and a large size covered patio area. We'll try the appetizer menu next time we come back with a larger party.
