Phenomenal place, by far one of the best sushi spots in OC, but definitely make it early to avoid waiting for sitting. Go with the specialties but everything we've ordered has been phenomenal -- sushi rolls, sashimi, handrolls (spicy scallop is to die for), tempura, calamari... One of our monthly outings when we eat out.Update:This place is no longer good. The sushi rice was hot on an unbaked roll - like, legit they just did it. They had to thaw the toro because it was frozen solid and served me still frozen pieces of fish with a bed of hot rice underneath. The gal that was the hostess / server was rude, and off putting. Every single time before this update - that was 4 times - she had attitude, was angry, irritated, and one day looked like she'd been crying in the car. Each and every time we visited she had attitude, mind you, we're spending 150-200 on sushi and drinks but progressively bad attitude and behavior. We gave all of the chefs a chance since I came when they served some of the best sushi in orange county but that ship has sailed. Covid either affected their pallets or the overall quality went down, but it's not worth the price point. They charge upscale sushi prices for mediocre fish and even worse service.
I was traveling on business and stopped in at Ango Tei. The Mix Tataki and ponzu sauce dish was excellent! Hope Can't wait to make it back and try them again!
We were looking for AYCE sushi for dinner tonight but apparently that’s hard to find in this area.Turned out ok though. We came across this small sushi spot and we were pretty impressed. Very good service, good food and good prices.
Very fresh fish and good quality sushi. This place is snall and they don't take reservations, so come as early as possible if you want good sushi and a very reasonable price. I really like their blue crab handroll and seabass egg roll. Seabass egg roll is the first time I see it on a Japanese restaurant menu, fresh fish fries to perfection with their ponzu sauce. What supprise me most is this restaurant been open since 1982, talk about tradition sushi and history. Must come if you in Orange County.
When I got my Tuna (roll and sushi) it had some white larva looking stuff in it, so I asked the waitress if she could tell what it was. Her reaction was ignorant and disrespectful. Instead of carefully looking into it and bring it back to chef for further investigation, she carelessly said “it is just a crab meat” and tried to walk away from our table. I told her it was not a crab meat, and that it was inside of the tuna. Not even looking back to it, she would just say “it is just a crab meat and got mixed up with tuna when chef prepared it”. What I was irritated by wasn’t really the quality of food but her reaction and tone. Even though I tried explain her several times that it wasn’t a crab meat, and that I would like to know what I was about to eat, she would keep carelessly addressing my concerns and walked away from our table. I asked another waiter if he could bring it back to chef and find out, but the same waitress suddenly cut off the guy and came back to our table with saying again that it was nothing but crab meat. See the pictures that I took. Do you think this tuna just got mixed with the crab meat? Moreover, I don’t know why this place has such a high rating. Food was average, not worth the price they charge. It seemed like offering the authentic quality sushi made by Japanese chef, but the reality was it tasted just like any quality AYCE restaurants. (*Later I got answer to this white stuff from one of my friends (pro chef). It is the tuna tendon, and normally when you prepare/cut the fish it needs to be carefully removed with tweezer. It is considered very low-quality prepped and unprofessionally made sushi)
If I lived here, I'd be a frequent diner. The toro, uni, mackerel, and yellowtail were delicious and high quality, paired it with nigori. I sat at the sushi bar, and there were at least 4 patrons that were regulars. Several bought a round for the sushi chefs.
Friendly service, but the rolls were not my favorite. The sushi rice was on the cold side and it was kinda hard. We prefer Shunka for rolls.
Decent place. The menu they gave seemed somewhat limited. Of what we had, the tuna tatake was the best.
Always, doesn't fail me! Food is fresh and simple.
