Were the tacos good? Yes. Were they the BEST tacos in I've ever had? Absolutely not. Worth the visit if you can, but I can't say you are missing much if you don't.Ordered:Carne Asada - completely inedible. It tasted like it was smoked in propane. I'm going to assume that there was something wrong with the stove back there this time because it didn't taste like it should have been intentional.Lengua: Very soft and tasty. Would recommend.Adobado: Very yum. The crispy and crunchy bits were *chefs kiss* and the sauce that goes with it, such a perfect pairing."Rose meat": Tender brisket, decent but nothing to write home about.Cabeza: Something to write home about. Very tender and melt in your mouth with some extra creaminess to the meat. Would absolutely recommend. The Adobado, Lengua and Cabeza were definitely the highlights of the meal. I got the Adobado on a sope which I would NOT recommend. The sope was not tasty. Very soggy no crunch.Protip: you can ask for a plate of grilled onions and peppers

The food was made fresh when ordered the carne asada and el pastor tacos and carne asada fries were excellent flavor was fresh and strong no other place compares

I drove all the way down because some people I met in San Diego told me about this place. It was really really good. I'm not an expert of Mexican food but all the one I tried during my California trip was not that good as this one. I got one burrito with carnitas and was melting in my mouth.

Probably the best tacos around. The pastor fries are my favorite! I love everything about this place. It’s got a rustic and original SoCal feel to it. It’s clean, the food is delicious, I’d say I was addicted because I eat here several times a week. It’s my late night craving and the food is just fantastic.

Overrated famous taco place. This location is conveniently located right off of Hwy 5 and has a drive through (don’t use it, you’ll be stuck for awhile). Price has been steadily going up here (even before the pandemic). It is overpriced now to even consider going. MINI street taco costs $4, carne asada fries almost at $20 etc. If you are going to raise the price, up the quality and service as well. There are many taqueria options in San Diego, this place can officially be removed from your list.

Can never fail coming here. They lessened the # of seats cuz of COVID. We always stop here every road trip to SD! Everything is closed right there as you order. They are super pleasant to talk to as well.

I was up there on a work trip and bought 6 maybe 7 tacos a variety of them it was on a Saturday night. Being Mexican-American I've had the opportunity to eat in way better places I was really disappointed this place was recommended by a lady that works at the Walmart in Imperial Beach. I honestly wont come back not for this quality of tacos and overpriced and the drive thru is a slow go they say there's always a long line not sure why since the tacos aren't that great but it's good enough for the people that lives there.

My friends and I stopped by here before we left to go back home to the valley to finish my bachelor party. One of my groomsmen wanted us to try this place so he took us here. The first thing that stood out was that parking is very limited so be aware of that. When we got inside, they have different area based on what you're going to order so you'll have to go to that area to order your food. I got only 1 Carne asada tacos while my friends got their Adobaba fries and also lengua tacos too. My taco was made in front of me when I ordered it so it came out quick. The fries took a while because they make it in the back. We had an issue with my friend Carne asada fries because it had hair in it so they had to remake it for him. The Carne asada taco was alright to me.

I always love my experience at Tacos El Gordo. This brings back my experience of Street tacos in Tijuana in the 80s. Love this place.

Yes yes yes Always a line of cars ( be nice to the friendly security dude—- not an easy job). Day laborers to tech hipsters…eclectic cars in the line. Great tacos….chorizo and asada. Oddly the tacos are served upside down on the plate. Whatever you do, ask and get the creamy avocado salsa.
