Sooooooo good. The taco salad is perfect. The shrimp burrito was cooked well and the vegetables were a great addition. Everything has a fresh feeling to it. The food was so good we returned the very next day.

The quality of food and the welcoming atmosphere of the owner makes every trip to this restaurant worth it. I have been coming here for more that a year and its always been delightful experience. This is bay far the best Mexican food spot in Castro valley.

This is one of my favorite places. The food is excellent, and the menu is expansive. I usually go for a burrito with a side of chips, but the street tacos and quesadillas are also really tasty! If you’re dining in, you will get a serving of chips and salsa. If you’re dining out, I high recommend to buy a big bag of chips to take home. Their tortilla chips are made fresh and are some of the best restaurant chips I’ve ever had. Seriously. Take them home and reheat in the air fryer for 3 minutes or so, they taste as fresh as when you first got them! The salsa is great too, spicy and not too chunky, the way I like it!Rosa, the owner, is an absolute sweetheart. I’ve known her for almost ten years now, as a regular patron. She is lovely and the rest of the staff is, too. I’m so glad this little eatery was able to survive the pandemic. They are fantastic!Note if you’re eating in: parking availability out front might be tight, so park on the side street right next to Portales. The area is pretty busy and public, so no need to worry about your car’s safety.

I highly recommend the wet burrito. I get shrimp or carnitas. Super friendly place! The hot salsa is addictive! It has a heat that just continues to build and build.

This was an unexpected but fantastic find in Castro Valley. Warm, crispy chips, spicy salsa, and seasoned al pastor made for a great meal. While our order wasn't correctly delivered, the manager went out of her way to make up for it.The food was fast, affordable, and most importantly delicious. We had the taco plate, burrito, and torta with complimentary chips, salsa, and lico de gallo!La comida fue barata, caliente, y sabrosa. El jefe nos trajo la comida rápidamente también con una sonrisa muy cariñosa.

I'm going to give this place 5 stars for the burrito quality BUT WHEN ORDERING ONLINE its hit or miss if you're going to get the chips you ordered!!! I CAN NOT recall how manyyy times I've disputed the chip order on Doordash.... did it just tonight! ? I love to use chips to scoop my burrito stuffing and for me, no chips is SUCH a disappointment!

Everything I have had from here is tasty, and they are very friendly and attentive to things you might like to modify. Their pork pozole was perfect for a cold evening.

The food is always really good! I’ve been going there for years and I’ve never been disappointed!

Google found this place for me and it was perfect. I was out of my hood and wanted a really good burrito and Portales did not disappoint. It's an old school family business that's got a really comforting vibe with food like mother would make... well not my mother but my mother in-law ;-)

Nice location off Castro valley, the lady working the counter was super nice and friendly. Service was quick and courteous. The food....well I wish I would have liked it more, it's really 3.5 star food but since there is no half, I bumped it to 4 for the service.I love Mexican food and I've never had as bad asada as I did here. It was shredded and tasted like ground beef. My sister had the chicken and it tasted good so maybe it was just the asada but I wouldn't recommend the asada. 2 star asada, 4 star for anything else and the service.
