I chose PAON for my birthday bc it is one of the VERY FEW restaurants in all of sd that us consistently excellent. Ive lived in sd for 12 years and really, there are only a few of these restaurants. If u havent been here, u r missing out. The flavors in their food is alway so rich, creative and authentically french. I dont get WHY ppl chose campfire or june y jolie over this place!! Dont! Paon is more affordable, you get more food for your money, and its excellent everytime!! WE GOT THE TUNA TARTARE AND GOAT CHEESE APP. 2 glasses of red wine, 2 gin n tonics, the burger, the duck, the ravioli, the short rib. We ended w bread pudding n free dessert for my bday. All the food items were a 10. Our bill, omg, wait for it, $197!!!!! We did go for lunch.

Beautiful spot in Carlsbad. Sat outside and the weather was gorgeous. Owner greeted us and even provided a French wine recommendation. Food was AMAZING and the service was fabulous. They even have a retail wine store and wine bar within their restaurant property. Definitely recommend to everyone if they are in, or even near, Carlsbad.
The food here is outstanding. It is the best I've had in a long time. I've been here several times now and will be returning often bringing friends along to share in the wonderful, generous (sharable) plates.
