Awesome place, great people incredibly high pricing
We visited in August because my husband had a conference for work at the Omni. When you arrive, you will see it is a large resort. We had to walk quite far to get too our room and that was ok. The room was fine, standard room with a balcony. Beds were comfortable. The highlight was the pool area. My 15 and 13 year old sons loved the 2 giant slides. The pool wasn't crowded and it was clean. The food is very expensive. There is a poolside restaurant which is convenient. There is a store with a cafe and you can get sandwiches, breakfast,etc.....also very expensive. I did try and book a whale watch from the hotel website and realized I booked the wrong date. I called the comapny and they said I did it through a 3rd party and they couldn't do anything. I went to the conceriege to assist and she tried to help but said I needed to contact the 3rd party directly. Try and book directly and don't use hotel site. The concerierge was going to call me back in an hour to see how I made out and I never heard from her. Also, I took a cab from San Diego airport. There isn't any Uber. Hotel had no shuttles to take you anywhere.
Needs Updating. We stayed two nights in a large king bed Villa room with fireplace and balcony overlooking a pool. Our first Omni property. Completely underwhelmed. 3 of 5 young front desk staff unmasked when we checked in. Snippy attitude. Good parking in front of our building. But $39 a night for open parking lot space? No security in sight. Why the high cost? Room large but needs maintenance and upgrade. Property built in the Spanish style in mid 60’s. Carpet ugh. Two lights out in bathroom. Bath tub had dated granite tiles. Loud rattling a/c. Ceiling fan didn’t work. Noisy fan connected to light switch in toilet area.. This place not worth the over $900 cost for two nights. Management is neglecting infrastructure and it shows.
The staff was fantastic as were the initial common areas (check in, lounge, etc…) but that’s about the only highlight for an otherwise underinvested hotel. There’s so much deferred maintenance here I’d recommend looking elsewhere until they get things straightened out. We stayed in a Plaza Room. The first room we were provided had a water leak from the ceiling. The Plaza hallway carpet was in worse shape than a one star Vegas strip party hotel. The room was a half star above a Holiday Inn as they made a slight attempt to have the room appear current with nice looking drapes. Oh well, we weren’t here to stay in the room so went to the adult pool. The adult pool area is a shining example of what happens when you defer ongoing maintenance. The decking is in dire need of replacement, the umbrellas look beat and should have been replaced a while ago, they keep their towels downstairs in the bathrooms (go get em yourself - it’s self service only), and our afternoon cabana left much to be desired. What a let down. We didn’t have overly high expectations here but it’s obvious based on our experience this hotel/resort is relying heavily on a historical reputation that has long faded. We stayed one night and left the following morning for Aviara, which has undergone a recent renovation. On the flip side - if you’re looking to go on a family trip with young kids look into this Omni. You won’t have to worry about damaging anything since most of the hotel is already beat.
My husband and I just got home from spending the weekend at Omni! The staff was friendly and accommodating. We have a 4 month old we were able to bring our stroller next to our chairs and relax. The food is delicious with so many options all at a reasonable price. We stayed in the signature rooms and they were beyond spacious they had a crib ready in our room when we arrived. Hands down one of our best trips yet. Will definitely book again in the coming months. We found out about this hotel through Chabad and are so happy we did!
It's nice to visit because of the shops...but the reason I'm giving this a three star rating is because of the food options. A magority of the food options are not really open for kids. When I went their with my brother. All he really had as an option was pizza.Another thing that really confused me was the menu. One morning, I saw that the breakfast menu was available all day. When I came back that same day...they were no longer serving the breakfast food .

This was our 2nd time staying at the La Costa Resort. Our first time had some minor hiccups that mgmt quickly rectified and so we decided to return. Our kids loved the pool and slide in the family pool area. Some of the rooms are older in different bldgs, but overall it was clean and nice. Staff was friendly and helpful and we also rented a cabana for the day. The cabana staff was 5 star and would definitely recommend it since pool area is very busy. If your kids have water toys make sure to keep an eye on it as one of my son’s water toys went missing. Their coffee shop in hotel is quick and you can even order a whole pizza if you’re too lazy to go anywhere for dinner or lunch. Make sure to order ahead of time since it’s a popular idea after the pool when everyone is starving.
This hotel must have the worst service at the Omni hotel chain. I am a Black Level Member (the highest at Omni Hotels) and have stayed at this property a couple of weeks per year since 2015. La Costa does a disservice to the Omni chain, and its membership should be reviewed. The property and rooms need an uplift badly, which is sad, considering what a nice property it was originally. The glass doors in bathrooms are not well installed and represent a peril to guests. Even small details like a working safe in the room can not be fixed, placing guests valuables at risk. Front desk service is poor. Black membership entails benefits that this hotel finds excuses not to honor, and the guest must remind them to receive them. Stay away if you have an alternative.
My friends and I were there for a tennis camp and day one we were told to park play tennis 2 hours then we could check in. During that time our car was broken into and our purses computers etc were stolen. The resort pretty much did nothing to help us. They didn’t seem to care and we wasted so much of our time dealing with cops, canceling credit cards etc. the resort didn’t even tell their staff their was a break in/ in their own parking lot!! The bell caps were never told ? u could go on and on. We didn’t expect lack of care or concern in a nice resort.
