The food was amazing and so was the service! We tried several items from the menu and everything was fresh and flavorful. Our server was super attentive even though the restaurant was super busy, and she was super sweet with our younger kids. Gluten makes me sick and they were super knowledgeable on what is gluten free and what items could be altered to be gluten free. Not only that, but they were happy to help! Also, they had yummy gluten free dessert options! Amazing experience, we will definitely visit again.
There’s never a line for bad food!! Blue Ocean is in my top 3 favorite restaurants in Carlsbad. They have delicious vegetarian options and a fun atmosphere. Staff is always amazing and food is alway fast and yummy despite the place always being slammed. Please give this restaurant the patience it deserves and I promise you’ll be happy you did!
Great first time dining experience. The atmosphere is warm n quaint, especially the covered patio dining with heaters.The menu choices are great. The sushi rolls presentation was as tasty as the actual sushi flavors. The kitchen menu with beef slices on hot plate at the table was both tasty and entertaining. The garlic edamame and gyoza were both tasty appetizers.It was impressive to see not only a Sake and wine list but also a whiskey list on the menu.The service was very professional n friendly. Emily was a great server who answered all our questions with patience and a smile. She was on top of it and made our dining experience a plus.We will definitely return to Blue Ocean for more pleasant dinners and I will recommend this place to others.
Let's start off by giving the sushi chef, Hu major credit for how attentive and quick he was! The place looks super modern and well maintained. We got seated very quickly, at the sushi bar. We ordered 4-5 sushi rolls/tempura and they were all phenomenal! The presentation, the flavor, the texture! It was near damn perfect! The parking was a breeze. I would highly recommend trying this restaurant out if you haven't already! Definitely will be going back.
Surprised my husband and took him to celebrate his 65th birthday. The experience was definitely a surprise.My dinner came out after a decent wait time. Unfortunately, that was not the case for my husband. We waited and waited for his sushi which didn't come. We watched as many plates of sushi went to others and finally flagged down our waitress after noticing that people who came in after us were being served their sushi. Turns out that the chef forgot about us.We were served soon after and found that the sushi was not good at all. We were not charged for the sushi. We will not go there again.
The food was beyond delicious. My favorite was the chef specialty tempura roll. We sat at the sushi bar and the chef was very accommodating he made us a special roll that was absolutely wonderful. He even suggested a few things from the menu that were also very good. I would say that sitting at the bar our server only checked on us once. She didn’t top off our water or even come around to see if we needed anything else. However the food was so good I won’t let the poor attentiveness from our server affect the rating. It was a busy Saturday night and we hardly waited for food and didn’t wait to get seated. Over all I would certainly come back again and recommend to friends and family.

The ambiance is beautiful, the location is great, close to the beach. The desserts are VERY good (+1 for having gluten free, vegan or vegetarian outlined on the menu). The sushi, however, was mediocre. Not tightly rolled so would fall apart very easily, and it tasted a bit off. It also took us flagging down waitstaff to get our order after 30 minutes of being seated despite not being a time during the lunch or dinner rush. I do recommend their desserts or if you like a relatively upscale restaurant, but it's not very authentic.
I really enjoyed our visit we initially didn't have this place on the list for dinner but when there was an hour wait next door we came here and it was bomb. My daughters had not had sushi so this was a good introduction, a few order Terriyaki mealsbbut I ordered a few rolls lobster spicy salmon dragon and wife ordered cali roll. The food was bomb and tasty we left with full bellies definitely will try again.
I cannot say enough about how inventive and flavorful the rolls and other offerings are at this lovely and lively establishment. The variety was wonderful, everyone ate more than their fill, and as the lone vegetarian in my party of 8, there was an impressive selection of awesome meatless options. Looking forward to a return visit next time we're in town!
