Update: horrible, beyond horrible service. We must have lucked out the first time around. Super embarrassed we brought friends this time swearing how amazing it was only for it to be awful. They also are not kid friendly at all. They should truly take their kids menu off the menu to make the message more clear. Never in all my motherhood have I gone somewhere so unfriendly to my kids. This place tends to be hit or miss. Sometimes we'll go and the food is just great especially the burritos. Other times like today the meats overcooked in the tacos and somehow they make refried beans I have absolutely no taste.
We love this place. They have the best shrimp and salmon in Carlsbad. The shrimp burrito is a go to order for me and spinach salad with salmon for him. The staff definitely makes us feel welcome.
The habenero salsa was actually hot! The burrito was a great and our dog loved the outdoor seating. I also recommend the blueberry margarita.
AMAZING!! We are from the midwest and always try to eat local. Barrio was OUTSTANDING! We were there on a Monday...Ameer (spell?) and Sam were great staff! Very personal, interactive and offered great suggestions. House made chips and salsa outstanding.....i ordered the "drunken fish" and my husband the chicken fajitas. Both very well prepared and quite flavorful. Not the usual Mexican place.....Wish there was one in Chicago!!!

Food was good. Staff not very friendly. Prices high and you don't even get a smile or nice greeting.
The food isn’t great and the margs tasted like it was from a premix that you can buy at Costco. Service was fantastic though.

Went on a Friday afternoon so it was not busy we waited for a long time to be seated and then waited a long time to get menus. When the waitress finally came she was the rudest person. The food was not good and it was pricey ? never going back too many great places to eat in Carlsbad with good service
