It was my first time going to Captain's Anchorage. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the service. The staff is very attentive quick and friendly. We loved our dinner and there was ample portions you have to take back to our room to enjoy the next day. I like how there is an upper level to the restaurant and a bar on the second level as well. The clam chowder was amazing. I'm a picky clam chowder critic and I was very pleased with the flavor and the freshness. Thank you and we will return again next time we're in Big Bear.
This place was very nice. The food was amazing and delicious. I wish I could have tried it all. My husband and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary. Process are high but worth it for a fancy evening. It was like the inside of a pirate ship bar. It was very fun.
Good food, good service. The facility is a little dated for the money in my opinion. The heat needed to be turned up as well, we sat upstairs. We had the filet with crab on top and a piece of seabass, both were good.
I want to start this review by clarifying that the restaurant was understaffed and that this may not be be accurate reflection of the restaurant when it is fully staffed. I understand that there may be a lapse in food quality due to the lack of cooks, but I felt that the quality of the food was very disappointing even in an understaffed kitchen. The service was good, and the soup was as well, but unfortunately the entrees were bland and unfinished. We payed close to 40 dollars for a half portion of salmon that was beyond charred. The rice paliff had very little flavor. The tortellini with chicken was not seasoned at all and was very dry, but the dish was watery. The sweet potato fries were very cold. Many of our dishes felt unfinished and went unfinished as well. I hope this was just an irregularity and people can enjoy a meal here in the future. I would like to note that the wait staff was of great quality and the overall ambiance of the restaurant is very charming. I just wish the food was better.
The bartender was nice. It was off putting to walk in and there was a sign that says masks for $2 a piece.. It felt very rude. The food was mediocre if not as good as Denny's. My husband got a steak which could have worked better as a hamburger and my seafood was sad.
Delicious dinner with a friendly staff! We were surprised to be seated right away without a reservation. (Just the two of us, but there are big booths for larger groups.) Just as quickly, we were served water, cocktails, and a bread basket; perfect after a day of snowboarding. The clam chowder is shockingly good! Creamy, but not to heavy, with plenty of clams and a nice celery flavor. Cocktails were tasty and well balanced. I recommend the Irish Old Fashion. Entrees were delicious and filling. The atmosphere is a *little fancy* but the customers were a mix, dressed in athletic snow clothes and others in cocktail/dinner attire.
Very good food and great service! Exactly what we needed after an energy intensive ski day! Decor is rustic but cozy. We will definitely come back again!
My wife and I have been coming up here every year since the mid 80's and this is our all time restaurant for dinner. When we come up the hill we eat here a minimum of twice in the week when we stay up here. We have never been disappointed in the food nor the service.
Very welcoming front desk staff. Service was impeccable. Prime Rib was delicious. Cozy atmosphere great bar!
?I've always wanted to try this place and finally I did, we started off poorly as the drinks were way off had to send them back ordered something off the signature craft drink menu and was also a disappointment. The Clam Chowder made up for it. I ordered the Anchor 6oz filet smothered in crab, artichoke and a heirloom tomato. Sorry to say it was a flavorless dish and the presentation was sloppy. My counter partner ordered the Porterhouse Pork Chop and sent it back due to its unseasoned flavor. What a shame I figured such an old spot would be rocking in flavor and drinks. ?
