Fast and attentive service, the waitress was always making sure everything was good and the food was great.

Their sushis are really good and fresh. HOWEVER, if you are on a rush this is not the place for you. I ordered during an off-peak time, they told me that the order would be completed in 30 minutes. Around 30 minutes later, I arrived at the shop, they are still not done with my order yet.

Tried this place on a whim as our normal sushi joints in the area both happened to be randomly closed for a few days. Was pretty disappointed given the good, recent ratings -- maybe we ordered the wrong things. We had a spicy tuna roll, philly roll, Mexico City roll, and Hawaiian burrito. And all three rolls were super bland -- we didn't even eat every piece because it just wasn't worth it. The best item in our bunch was the Hawaiian roll, as it had some good flavor and textures from the ingredients. Really disappointed, sadly, and we likely won't be back.
I am giving 5 stars because:#1. They are always CLEAN! You can tell from the floor, counter, tables and dish-wares that the kitchen is probably clean too.#2. Not so busy, meaning you don’t need to wait long and your meal receives enough ATTENTION it needs.#3. The food is AMAZING! I used to work at a sushi place and can recognize a properly made Japanese dish when I see and taste one.#4. The place has a warm or cozy vibe. You don’t feel lonely even if you are eating alone lol#5. Their menu is RICH in “flavor”. You have many selections at this place.
Bottom line I would have died of starvation if this place didn’t exist, seriously. Having IBS can make it extremely difficult to find food that won’t make me sick but there’s a lot on the menu that is ok for me here. It’s a safe retreat. Forget about Toss ,Thai Noodle, Kyoto or Momo’s Island(no comparison to Sumo roll btw the one time they were closed and I was forced to eat there). Sure I’m uninteresting and order more or less the same two things but this place is top notch. Rock bottom prices for sushi and bento and best presentation and value in all of Berkeley. Extreme or near perfect consistency every time I order! I’ve honestly never ever had an issue ordering here in the 75+ times I’ve ordered. Thank you Sumo roll lady and family. And I hope your back is recovered from the accident with the rice bag and we love you and your business so much and thanks for the literal years of feeding us and keeping us alive. Hoping for years and years more in business!

I ate here today and was quite impressed by both the outstanding service and fresh food. Sushi is hard, but this place has it nailed. Good flavors and fresh ingredients. I plan to return!
