Great korean food and service! Really enjoyed their kimchi bibimbap and the bossam
So glad this place is in Berkeley. The food is authentic & very yummy. It's a bit pricey but worth it. The service is excellent. Our server was very helpful & went out of his way to show us how to eat the crispy rice.
What a great restaurant. I've been back countless times, and tried every single item on their menu. The Kimchi Tofu Soup is simply one of the best meals I've had in my life. I get it almost every time I go now. Savory, satisfying, spicy soup served up with big chunks of silky tofu in it, and white rice with 4 banchan (little sides of cooked seasoned veggies). Do be warned, they don't play around when they say "extra spicy". It's hot-hot, and I'm one to eat a whole habañero on a dare!
Bimbimbap was very flavorful and came with many fun sides like the excellent hot tofu soup. It’s very easy to get vegan and gluten free item here. Good service! One downside, the price is a bit high. $21 for bimbimbap (stone bowl) feels a bit high to me.
I really like the small dishes, seafood pancake, tofu soup, kimchi and friend chicken. Great service too. My favorite Korean food around Berkeley :D
Authentic Korean restaurant, fresh ingredients and fresh Banchan; always. Kimchi pancake is really good! Came for the kimchi pancake from reading the nytimes article, left this place happy and super full. We will be back!
I have been coming to Pyeong Chang Tofu House for about 7 years. New improved prices with less quality and less service. 1 bowl of vegetarian soup.... $20.00. I am vegetarian. Both Pyeong Chang restaurants took the time to remake the menu with increased prices but not correct the changes they made for cheaper ingredients. Shiitake mushrooms are advertised in the vegetarian soup. They both switched to cheap button mushrooms and left shiitake on the menu. This has now been numerous times between both restaurants. With the new price hikes, I made it a point to ask to make sure they had shiitake this time before ordering. The waitress said YES. I ordered the soup and received button mushrooms again. I would have walked out at a 20 dollar soup if she had said no. I have not seen Shiitake in my dishes for years between the two restaurants, always with the same excuse, " we were out".The "manager?" came out and told me that is how they do business when I asked and was willing to do nothing. Why say you have something if you dont? Are you assuming your customers wont notice shiitake from button mushrooms. I ordered steak and received chicken. Of course steak prices are asked. I guess the rice served in the stone bowl with crisp rice is a thing of the past also. Not here. . It was good while it lasted and the reason I continued to go in spite of the decline in quality and service. Now 5 star prices with 2 star service, and the famous signs of the death throws of a restaurant desperate for every dollar they can? I wish them luck, but driving away a 7 year customer that has always tipped well? Off night you say? That is quite a few off nights in a row to give up my favorite restaurant. This place has lost its magic. I think I will keep making my own Kimchi.
Great spot for satisfying your Korean food cravings! Got the stone beef bibimbap which came with extra spicy tofu stew, also split soy garlic wings which were super crispy and flavorful. Their kimchi is also A+!
Fish was fresh and tasty. The dishes were very flavorful! We had a good experience eating here.
yulmu bibimbab was so good! I wish the Oakland location offers the dish!
